Lets see what happens when her contract ends in Mar next yr ....

How soon do you broach the subject about renewing the contract to your maid? How much increment to give? Understand that this is subject to maid's performance. I suppose an increment of $20 to $50 would be reasonable? :? My maid's contract will be due in June next year.

        Hi cmm,

We have already told her to let us know by December( this was abt 1 mth back), though no due date was given. We will speak to her aft xmas if she doesn't get back to us by then. I think 3 mths is sufficient time to look for a new maid if she wishes not to renew the contract.

As for increment, yes I think bet $20 to $50 is fair enough. But we will prob increase by $20 to $30 cuz she gets ang pow or gifts for cny, hari raya, xmas, bday, deepavali as a token of appreciation from us and ILs πŸ˜„ And we are giving her 1 mth yr end bonus as well, only because she has been good to our DS. But thats our decision cuz its employers' discretion I suppose.

          Hi autumnbronze,

Thanks for the advice! Do you also let her go on home leave should she decide to renew?

reason I asked is cos my previous maid went on home leave and came back with changed attitude. For example, she wanted to re-negotiate the terms od her employment (salary, off day, HP, etc...), though these were already discussed & agreed upon before her home leave

                Yes cmm,

I agree that there is a chance that this might happen. But I think its a catch 22 situation cuz, either way, if she doesn't go hm, some mths down the road she may WANT to take a short break, citing reasons like she misses her family etc... So its a risk we have to take. We will tell her v firmly and put it down in writing that under no circumstances will we entertain any changes in the contract.

                    You know cmm,

My DH and I have this philosophy when it comes to certain things in life and hiring maids is one of them - hope for the best BUT expect the worst πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜„

When I tell the maid directly my expectations, she turned around and say \"If you are not happy with me, send me back\". :stupid:

I will grant her wish than to be threatened :x

                        Hi.
                        Sorry to hijack.

An increment of $20 to $30 is sufficient.
As per contract, you should allow her home leave of 2 weeks and you have to buy her return ticket.
