        hi

is SJI and SJI International PE attire the same?
I happen to pass by SJI International this afternoon. Their students wear white shirts with green pants/skirts.

Any parents can share how the school conducts CCA selection?

Would also like to know the answer to this question too. Understand that each kid is suppose to state their interest (6 or 7 choices) but how is the selection made? For example, will the school inform them that they are successful in choices 1,2,4,5 and thereafter they need to make a final selection among the successful choices or the school will only inform them of ONE successful choice? Is the selection process similar to PSLE in the sense that if the school deem the kid to be good at (say) badmintion and he places badmintion as the 6 choice, he will STILL be selected or its first come first serve basis?

          Thanks in advance for sharing

Sorry, just to add if anyone knows how much is the school badge and if there is different tie lengths? Seen some kids with nice lengths (even for shorter kids) while others a little too long?

My ds says the school bookshop is selling the badge at $1.50 each. Not sure if true though.

Yes, the badge can be bought at the book shop for $1.50. My boy broke his too, within hours of the closing ceremony during parents’ orientation. He was forewarned by the PSL that it was ‘fragile’.

I’m also keen to know how the selection criteria for the CCA is done. Could anyone of the older boys’ parents please enlighten? Thank you.

If you refer to the school website, it states that the allocation of CCA is based on the following ranked criteria:

                student’s talent,
school needs and the availability of places,
                student’s interest and
the possibility of the student getting a good CCA grade.

The problem here is that it is not made known to all boys if they have some \"potential\" in the sport trials that they had taken part. Hence, it is a guessing game. Thought what would have been better is that after they had tried these sports, the \"tester\" could indicate to them if they have \"potential\". Otherwise, for a kid to select a sport due to his interest may not necessary mean he will get it as the preliminary \"assessment\" may be that he has not the (a)talent and (b)spaces. A similar example l gave was if this kid has interest in badminton and applies for this sport but unfortunately, during his sports trials, the assessors felt he does not have the talent, well the result is obvious? Hence, l was told that in order not to waste your choices, it is wise to include a UG as a lower choice (i.e. if UG is not top of your interest and no offence to those who love UG).

Perhaps, the school could provide some depth to the selection process?

                Just my thoughts.

Hi I think those who are shortlisted for sports would be told. My boy told me he was shortlisted but I did not ask him if he was told verbally or if there was a list. Same for his friend who was shortlisted for a different sport.

Perhaps you can email the CCA teacher in charge.

That's what my DS told me too. He was given a \"confirm\" in one sport and \"shortlisted\" for a few others. The teachers in charge just told him verbally but I think for those kids who have the attributes that a particular CCA is looking for, the teachers would have noted down their names. Hence, if those who are given \"confirm\" or \"shortlisted\" and put those CCA as one of their top choices, chances of getting in will be high.

                      Hi Ksmama & Zekezachzoom
I have also heard some boys were told while others totally no mentioned at all. Does this mean that those who were not told at all do not have the potential in all the sport trials? Hence, for these boys, the selection are based on space availability only? Anyone has any idea on space availability for these sports? (e.g. badminton 10 pax, soccer 22 pax, rugy 15 pax, etc). Any idea when must the option be submitted?
                      Regards

I have sent an email to the school and requesting the school to share the vacancies for each CCA. Then we will be in a better position to gauge our ds chances of getting in. Hopefully I can get a positive response.
