I’m amazed… my daughter graduated from QPS in 2003. In her year, only two girls went to RGS, one to NYGH, and about two to River Valley. There were very few top scorers. It’s really good that their results have improved tremendously.

The results are about there every year … not really tremendous improvement like you mentioned, but good enough for a typical neighbourhood school.

Top PSLE score in Queenstown Primary for past few years:
        2005-268/9, 2006-269, 2007-275, 2008-267, 2009-270

Every year quite a number (I think 5-10) would enter top schools like RGS/RI/HCI/NYGH, some others would choose DHS, RV, NJC and Crescent even though their PSLE scores were higher than the COP of the so-called 4 top schools.

I am new to this …my son will be joining QTPS next year. We only found out that Mrs Kumar is retiring during the P1 Orientation. We find her to be very caring towards the students … hope that Mrs Chua will maintain the similar culture.

hi HY, welcome to the Queenstown family!

On the last day of school, there was a special tribute paid to Mrs Kumar - a group teachers sang songs dedicated to her and many teachers, office staff and students queued up to hug her and gave her a flower. It was a touching moment, many teachers and parents could be seen tearing.

I think Mrs Grace Chua was VP from Kuo Chuan Presbytarian Sec, I do not know her style yet.

It is more important to have caring teachers. In QtPS, the lower primary teachers are usually the most caring and patient teachers in the school. Your son should be in good hands!

Thanks mjl! Do you know what kind of food (and how much?) is being offered at the school tuckshop? Still struggling with the appropriate allowance to give my son and I am worried that he may use the allowance on unnecessary stationary or junk food.

hi HY, the kind of food available in the stalls - noodles, roti prata, muslim food, chinese food, chicken rice, fried rice, etc. I pack lunch box for my girl, simple food like 2 slices of bread with nutella, or cereals (without milk), biscuits, cakes etc that she would eat during recess. She will also eat something (usually cereals with milk, bread or cakes) in the morning, before leaving for school. If she needs to stay back, then she will buy chicken rice (60 cts) from the canteen for lunch. The food is cheap, about 60 cts for the food that I mentioned above. She does not buy any drink as she drinks plain water from her water bottle. She has a small purse with about $1-$2 worth of coins, which I would top up whenever she has left with less than 60 cts. She does not buy unnecessary stationary or junk food, but I know some of her friends are doing that.

If you are giving your son a fixed daily allowance, I think $1 is more than enough. When my elder daughter was in QtPS, I gave her $1 a day when she was in P5-P6, 60 cts in P1-P4. She managed to save quite a lot each month as she did not spend the money on unnecessary items.

Thanks so much for the info ... we'll probably start with zero allowance in the first couple of weeks! My son still can't handle money well. 2 more days to D-day ....

                    Dear parents

I wanted to say a big Thank You to all the parents and advisors on this site. You guys and gals have been a great encouragement during the past months of P1 preparation, building up all the way to this First Day of school 🙂

Today, all was smooth and well organised (except for the heavy rain which we couldn't \"control\" - even then it caused no major hiccups 😛 )

The new principal, Mrs Chua, was very professional - constantly interacting with parents, at the foyer, library, even the canteen. As the invited speaker mentioned this morning, the principal's statement that the parents' and teachers' heart beating in \"the same beat\" is very assuring.

All the best to all P1 Queenstown students and their parents 🙂

                      Hi parents of QtPS students,

How do you find your child/children's teachers this year? Hope your kids are in good hands. I always feel that it is more far important to have good teachers (but luck plays a part here), than to be in a reputable school.

My P5 daughter is very blessed to have good teachers this year 😄 . Her form & Maths & Science teacher is Mr A Ng, English teacher is Ms G Lim and Chinese teacher is Ms Chai - all are dedicated & caring teachers whom I am familiar with, and they are very good in teaching the respective subjects.

                      Cheers.
