Sec school so many subjects. How to still help the kids? I still have not yet open a single textbook to read through. Fell asleep when I tried to read History the other day.

I opened his History and Science text...almost fell off the chair. So much more difficult than our time. Told him to write the hanyu pinyin for those new characters in his textbook...it will help him to understand and read smoothly.

Parents, how much pocket money do you give to your Sec 1 children?

I get $2.50 for recess, and another $2.50 for lunch if I need to have lunch in school.

$4 for recess and $4 for lunch. This is because I want my kids to drink milk at the breaks and it cost around $1 per packet.

By the way can someone tell me what is L1R5? It's got something to do with O Levels results but I don't understand what it is.

Hope I am not wrong to say this...English + Best 5 subjects...1 from humanities.

Ok that means same as my time. Thanks!

Don't worry, I still do that sometimes.
Even told my boy when younger one stays back for CCA, mommy can sometimes buy food for him or have lunch with him at the nearby coffee shop when his lunch breaks are longer. (Actually is just want to go spy on him  )

There will come a day when I do spot checks when he tells me he does projects after school…buy curry puff or some tidbits to pass to him to share with classmates…then ask him to meet me at school gate. This way, he will know I am checking on his movements. He must earn my trust in order for me to let go.
Oh well. I guess I'm still not quite ready to be back in school...this time it's mommy here who needs to start tuning in. The sight of textbooks or sound of tests however small still puts me off. Maybe because some people at home still very unhappy with us over PSLE. Another near argument nearly erupted again. It's been more than a month. Hiaz...

PSLE is over...no point harping on the issue...gotta move on sweetie.
If need be, maybe you can try to avoid those people.
I told older one to WAKE UP...failure to know what he has to do everyday after school will only lead to PUNISHMENT
Studies wise, still have to guide him a little...from P6 to Sec 1, the change is drastic and maturity is not there yet.

We already moved on Janet. Actually happily settling in.
But once in awhile the bees just show up and sting, so what to do??? Real bees can call pest control. These can't. 🤷
Hopefully, time heals and I hope it does for you and your kid. My DS is also settling into his new environment and is slowly getting into his routine, and the memory of his disappointing PSLE result is slowly fading off. I am sure your kid will do OK too. So, look ahead and not backward. :grphug:

Hi kwcllf,

I will look forward…no point harping on the past…however disappointing those results are, it is the past.
Time will heal. It’s week 3. Son is hoping he gets into Infocomm for CCA.
He seems excited with the changes and I am happy for him too. In fact, he just told us he will be making butter cake during Home Econs class.
Thanks for your kind words, I really appreciate.
