For my DD1, the school starts off with the theme \"System\" first.

      Same here. 🙂

How true, every school (& I guess enrichment/tuition centre) has its own sequence, probably based on how each views the difficulties and flow/build-up of each topic.

For my dd school, it's Cells first. Last 2 weeks, the class was separated into groups to do a presentation on Cells. They were supposed to answer these 4 questions :
          Q1. What are cells?
Q2. What are the different types of cells?
Q3. What are the differences between plant and animal cells?
Q4. What are the different cell parts and their functions?

This week, the pupils are supposed to do individual work on research on the green sea slug.

Food for thought : Do you know that the green sea slug is very unique in that it is an animal which possesses chlorophyll (a plant cell part, chloroplasts) in its body and is able to make use of it in the presence of sunlight to produce its own food? Wow, an animal which can photosynthesise, like a plant!

Cca till 6? School team ah?
My boy camping end of the month. They are ordering tshirts now. He looks forward to it and I am so proud that he is pretty independent. Friends play a huge part, I guess.

Your boy school is quality work over quantity.the results of the cohort speaks volume.;-)
Yes. School team. That's what he achieved last year during P4. 😓 finally he's home and the first thing he said was The Camp so dirty!! the toilet stink! and he had problems :imconstipated: at that toilet! :nailbite: many girls cried.. few boys cried too due to homesick. I'm quite happy after camp though as realised he is more considerate and looked after his own hygience better now. 😉 😉

              bebe:
Will u allow yr P5 kid to join the cultural immersion trip (China)? I received a form and that the sch is organising such trip (6 days) in the coming Mar holiday. Not sure if I want to let my gal go (she has never been to China). My hubby and myself will not be in town during Mar Holiday.

My boy Vietnam. Yes, I will let him go to experience the different kind of culture and lifestyle other than Spore. Hopefully he is more appreciative after that.... but if only he's being chosen :xedfingers:

I haven’t heard any fr my dd sch about a P5 camp.

And she has not been asked to go for supplementary lessons - for the academic subjects. No news abt Maths Olympiad either. But, her ballet teacher has requested that she attend 3 - 4 lessons a week!!

I’m a FTWM, so all I do is ask her if she understands what the teachers are teaching in school. She said that she does, Math is easy, Sc is fun because the teacher tells jokes, ethics class is also fun because the teacher tells stories … so I do not know what topics they’re doing for Math, Sc, etc.

I would like her to go for Chinese tuition, her weakest subject. But she said that she can cope. She said that she would like to go to Learning Lab for English because her friends go there and they have nice new storybooks that their students can borrow. But her English is OK le … and a thousand bucks a term for lending privilages sounds a bit ex to me. So we had that discussion on what grades she thinks she can get for the mid-year exams, and what actions we should persue if her grades fall below.

Now, she’s home by 2pm three times a week, the other 2 she stays back for ballet. Then, after lunch, she falls asleep infont of the telly. Sigh! I’m going to sell that TV …

But today, she wants to go to the library with another 2 P5 neighbourhood girls - by themselves! That is, after school, they’ll take the bus to the nearest library, which is 6 or 7 stops away, by themselves. Buy their lunch, then go to the library to read … or do homework … or something of that sort. She has never taken public transport on her own.

Just a quick check - do your P5 dc take public transport by themselves?

Mine yes, in fact when my dc at P3 I had already trained them to take public transport on their own for tuition. I have no external helpers. Many things cannot squeeze over weekend. So no choice.

I am not sure other boys. There was several times, my boy will be distracted by things like animal kaesar, video games, etc. He will tend to stop and watch.

Is there any device how to track the movement? really cannot trust my immature boy at this moment. Some people who have older boys advise me to tighten the string. Boys are distracted easily.

My boy started public transport only this year on condition that I know who he commutes with and I need that friend hp number. We sneaked to school and peep at him as we were free that day. He is quite reliable, but my main worries are perverts lurking around neighbourhood if any.
