Mind you I'm not anti-establishment or pro-opposition. So if WP or any other party you chose to chastise comes into power, I would want opposition in parliament, be it PAP, SDP or whatever Ps.
      I support this also..

As the saying goes.. Power corrupts.. absolute power corrupts absolutely....

Seeing how policies are bulldozed into force and the apparent lack of accountability for some issues....

I feel some checks and balances is absolutely necessary to enforce transparency and accountability.

There is a NEED to have some checks in our parliament. At least they are there to voice out for us…for most of us who are not high flyers, govt scholars…but just ordinary citizens. When new regulations are mentioned, there will be opposition who can ask WHY on our behalf.

Why COE, HDB, childcare prices are higher and higher? why rental of those premises are higher? Where is the voice?

COE prices are getting so high for entry level cars.
Not everyone can do without cars...just like some can't do without maids.
School bus fares are not cheap...SMRT is ahem :censored:

So, we definitely NEED someone who can voice out for us in parliament.

              Joule:
              6) Losing PAP candidates becoming 'grassroots advisers'?
Heard on CNA that HSK said that voters should vote for incumbent so that WP can work harder for them... :scratchhead:

Seriously I rather he don't say a single thing.... He is the education minister whom the children are familiar with... As a parent, I want to continue to respect him and trust that he will continue to improve the current education system. I know his party role and his education minister role is \"separate\" but.....

Seriously how can the opposition be working harder when there are so many barriers ??? A lost PAP candidate can stay as adviser. What about a lost opposition or WP ??? Re-appear in 5 years time???

KSP is middle to high level talking - good thing still not so high that I don't understand 😆 But for the ordinary folks, they don't know much and they don't think very much. One or two sentences that hits the right chord is enough to have them swinging.

😆 Ya, was also :scratchhead: how to make oppositions work harder if they lose the election. I think here think there also cannot figure out how. Can someone please enlighten me?

See, they always use this as their weapon when it comes to elections, saying that oppositions will 'disappear' after they lose the elections and 'reappear' after 5 years. It is quite an effective tool you know, many people will buy it without looking deeper into issues. In that sense, oppositions do need to work harder in their ability to convince voters - to give them a chance, I guess.

BTW, I am curious. During the entire process of citizenship to be Singaporean, is there anywhere in the papers, direct or indirectly that they have to vote for the incumbent? Do you know of any new citizens that do not vote for the incumbent? Is it an obligation, or do they feel they owe it to the incumbent and have to vote for them, even if they might be inclined to agree with the oppositions on issues?

Also, if a citizen gives up all his/her voting rights by not voting, will his/her citizenship gets revoked/void even if he/she is born here?

                        Yes...this I completely agree.
When I saw him on TV showing his support for the Punggol PAP member, I asked hubby why did he mention education :?
The education system applies to children staying in ALL parts of Singapore...children staying in Punggol East are also entitled to quality education and not to forget, ALL schools are good schools right ?
