      Hello,

I ran across this posting and wanted to share. I have a friend who’s son is ADHD in the Klang Valley. They actually have someone who comes to their home to work with their son, and I’ve seen such improvement! If you want to find out more, let me know, I will find out some info!

        Hello!

I just wanted to share to any parents who are looking for some assistance with their child in the realm of communication/speech therapy. My friend’s son has someone from LEMM International Therapy who comes to their home to work with him, and he has really improved! I can find out more about the service if anyone is interested in the Klang Valley, and wanting some help with their child.

          Thanks gerberdaisy!

Is the assessment targeted on identifying if child having ADHD or covers all possible syndrome?

It works for beanbear DD, pinning hope to work for DS. Invested a lot to see very little improvement though cost lower. If can work within a holiday, I think the therapy must be very good, have to try though need to strive hard to pay the bills. 😞

Forget to ask much does each therapy session costs. Maybe not affordable after all. Sigh!

Every child's progress will be different. I met some really desperate mums who tried so many things and kept saying they can't see any difference. The OT Alvin shared that there are times the child has made progress by leaps and bounds from an OT perspective but for the parent it's not good enough because the parent compares her child to a normal child.

There is no cure for ADHD. With therapy and self-awareness, the child becomes more equipped to deal with the daily demands that society imposes, whether at school or at work in future.

Maybe I focused my attention to look for small signs of progress. I knew that DD's attention span before therapy was about 10-15 mins for homework, go toilet 4-5 times per hour, go into dream states in the middle of our conversation. The moment DD could sit and complete a task without moving for 30mins, it's a huge accomplishment. Her progress don't necessarily translate into academic success. Not yet. I'm hopeful but I try not to set high expectations.

I didn't expect the results to come in during the school holidays but when it did, the OT and I celebrated DD's great progress. DD was able to complete assessment tests and do them accurately for 1 hour. She was cheerful, on task and generally motivated. It was really motivating for me.

OT at a private centre is a very expensive exercise, I must add. Regular sessions are $140 per hour. Interactive Metronome costs a whopping $160 per hour and DD was attending 15 sessions in June. I tried Brainfit Studio previously for total of 80 sessions for DD with little improvement. That costs $50 per session. On hindsight, I didn't know the difference between Brainfit studio and OT and it was only after seeing the Educational Psychologist that I was enlightened. It's a bit like seeing a GP but your illness really requires you to see a Specialist. GP you pay $25-30 for consultation but specialist you pay $80-120 each session right?

I console myself, never mind, Lesson learnt. It's my child that matters. Money lost can earn back. What's more important is to look forward and stay open to new possibilities for my child. She may not score well for PSLE, maybe go to Normal Academic or even Normal Tech. It's ok. Who am I to know what she's capable of next time. She's already a gifted musician and very empathetic to very young children and old people. She will find her own niche somehow. As a parent, if what I can do now is pay money and chauffeur her to get the specialist help she needs, then I do what I can while I can still afford. If the day comes and I cannot afford, then got to go and queue at government hospital, lah.

          Hi beanbear,

Firstly, we must apologise for this late response. As you can see, we are new to the forum.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are familiar with Alvin's work and are very glad that your daughter has improved in his good hands. At the same time, we are disappointed that you did not see much improvement in your daughter after brain fitness training with us. We do take our students' progress and parent satisfaction seriously hence we would like to understand more from you. We have helped many students with ADHD and would hate to think that your time and money with us has not been put to good use. In some cases, we know that there can be a delayed response to brain fitness training with kids suddenly progressing after a period of apparent stagnation. We would of course not want to jump to conclusion or make any assumptions here without understanding more.

We will be sending you a private message and really appreciate if you can get in touch with us for us to understand better and see what we can do to assist further.

          Many thanks,

          BrainFit Studio Management

Wonder anyone tried TCM to treat the above? My friens' gal has ADHD and seems hyper but she refused to give her medication as have side effect.

Further to Kitty2 post, anyone tried or know more about TCM treatment. Just seen doctor again after 1 year waiting. My boy is confirmed ADHD and i do not feel good with medication too but do not know if there is any other way to help him. His hyper part i can bear with but his focusing and attention is very bad which will result in poor result.

Any parent here who did not give their kid medi and could handle them and their result are still fine. Please help.

No Medication. Intervention programme through a psychologist. PSLE cleared a decent 4 As. So it is possible but you need to spend a lot of 1 to 1 personal time to teach instead of staying for supplementary lessons in school.

Does Yoga (like the Amanda Marg) centre in Parkway help in calming kids so that they are more calmer, less hyper?

Do you send for tution like small group or you just teach yourself?
Mine his understanding is very slow (cannot twist and turn) and attention is really bad. Sitting there with me but the brain is not there.

                  MamaO I just PM you.

We have 1 to 1 tuition for CL 2x a week and small study group for Math 1x a week. The rest of the subjects and school homework I cover. Moral of the story - whoever is teaching DS must know that he needs to be closely monitored. So the tutors have to be willing to put in extra effort teaching my DS. I'm glad both tutors enjoy working on DS though he sometimes drives them nuts! :yikes:

                    fifi, thanks for ur PM.
Which Maths tution school you send him or teacher which u could recommend (not sure which area u are in).
U coach him EL on ur own. (Maybe ur DS language is strong?). My DS, i send him for EL tution, this year P2, still could not get the tenses right.
Very worry for him, how is he going to follow on.

Haiz, I am so afraid my son will turn out to have adhd. He is 3, too young for evaluation. But anyone with adhd children care to share what theier child was like at 3?

He is ok at home, very active but we control his behaviour strictly so he knows his boundaries. He already stopped napping! Things he like, such as stories, toys and ipad can play for long time. Other thing like worksheet? Good luck.

In school, he spends a lot of time misbehaving. Just disturbing his friends, walking around, taking toys to play, and even running out of classroom! He even got into a fight with a boy 1 head taller than him... Teacher complains to me everyday

Don’t jump the gun. My ds2 stopped napping before 2 and was a non stop child from the time he was in the womb. I could feel him moving all the time. (Ds1 moved regularly twice a day at the same time very day.)

He is only 3. I know others feel differently, but my kids are not expected to do worksheets before 5. Instead I do crafts with them, simple experiments and a lot outdoor time.

He could be more active but still within the norm. Or very bored, or very extroverted. I will suggest a lot of active play with balls, balancing activities, catching butterflies. These are active, yet require focus and skills. If he tend to be ‘rough’, consider activities with increased weight eg swimming. Moving against the water pressure will be very calming for him.

You should start the day with two hours of active play, followed by quieter activites like crafts or stories. Provide variety within a cycle which is better for both him and hs caregivers. Keep trying new activities to see what he likes.

You should look for a school with small classes, a lot of hands on activites, and daily outdoor playtime for the child. ideally a school compound with a lot of open space.

Finally, consider his diet. Some kids have food sensitivities and get very hyper after certain food or medications. My Ds2 will overreact to drugs like ventolin ( very giggly after) or sleep inducing antihistamines ( very groggy for the entire next day).
