      Chez:
      CuriousHippo:

Thanks to all. I have just called them and they informed me about the venue. My collection time is on Friday, 11am to 4pm. I will have to take half day leave.

      Hi CuriousHippo,

You can arrange with the vendor to collect the macbook either on Sat or Sun...so you can save on your leave πŸ˜„

      1) Besides MSHS, does anyone know what other schools make it compulsory for their Sec 1 students to purchase a MacBook?

      2) Curious to know how these schools help students who's parents cannot afford to fork out $1800 to $2300 for the MacBook.

      3) Heard that the theft rate is very high in MSHS on MacBook being stolen in school compound.

xvirusga, yes it is compulsory. Somewhere in term 3-4. This was conveyed to the students. You may want to check with ur DS if not the school.

Its worrying to hear there are high theft rates for Macbook in school. Since this is only required in term 3-4, that means they do not need to bring the Mac to school during this period?

Oppa, I dont think so about the theft rates. All students have to use it from Sec1. My DS, sec1, is using it now.

Heard from my DS he has a classmate that did not purchase the Mac. Not sure how is the school going to help him since it is required individually as part of the syllabus.

Out of curiosity, can any parents please share with me if your DS in Sec One are tested on English spelling or Chinese 听写yet?

I asked because my DS told me he has not been given any yet in his class.
However, my niece and nephew from other secondary schools in Sec One standard too are already tested on 听写and already have CA on a weekly basis.

Yes, chinese spelling from the bold words in the textbook. English spelling, so far no indication there is. For English, I guess it will be different from primary ones, spelling in the form of note-taking / dictation. Geography test tomorrow, 4units. Some writeup/assingm needed for Literature to handup next Monday, may hv marks for that.
