      Hi,

      Each division is 0.2. The pointer points between 2.4 to 2.6 and the answer should be 2.48.

      Cheers.

          using ratio and equating ratio parts is the usual approach..

          shaded --> 2 units
          A --> 10 units, A-unshaded --> 8 units
          B --> 5 units, B-unshaded --> 3 units
          Total area--> 10 units + 3 units = 13 units
          Total unshaded area --> 8 units + 3 units = 11 units
          Fraction of figure that is unshaded --> 11/13

          cheers

              An equal number of male & female runners participated in a marathon race.
              After 980 female runners and 350 male runners dropped out of the race, the number of female runners left was 1/6 the number of male runners.
              What was the total number of runners at the start of the race?
              (Can help by showing the model-drawing?)

              Hope this comes out ok... sketch on mobile...

                There were twice as many red marbles as yellow marbles in a box.

                When 2 red marbles were put into the box and 6 yellow marble were taken out, there was 3 times as many red marbles than yellow marble in the box.
                What was the total number of marbles at 1st?

                    Hi Tianzhu/007, I have another question here:

                    A badminton racket costs $24 more than a table tennis bat and $9 more than a basketball. Benedict bought 2 badminton rackets, 3 table tennis bats and 3 basketballs and paid a total of $279. How much did the basketball costs?

                    Thank you very much.

                      I try....

                      Badminton racket = TT +$24
                      Badminton racket = Bketball + $9

                      (TT+24)=Bketball+9
                      Bketball= (TT+24)-9
                      Bketball= TT+15

                      Given: 2Badminton + 3TT + 3Bketball = 279

                      2Badminton= 2TT+48
                      3TT=3TT
                      3Bketball = 3TT+45

                      So, 2Badminton + 3TT + 3Bketball = 279
                      also means:
                      2TT+48+3TT+3TT+45=279
                      8TT+93=279
                      8TT=186
                      TT=23.25

                      Bketball = TT+15
                      =23.25+15
                      =$38.25 ANS

                      Am I correct ? šŸ™

                        anyone there to help me solve the above?

                        Q1.
                        painted today --> completed - painted yesterday
                        = 5/6 - 2/5
                        = 13/30

                        Q2.
                        Kate --> 3/5 m ribbon
                        Siti --> 1/4 more --> 3/5 m + 1/4 m = 17/20 m

                        Q3.
                        Original length --> cut away + remaining
                        = 2/7 m + 1/6m
                        = 19/42 m

                        Q4.
                        Mary --> 5/6h
                        David --> 1/4h less than Mary --> 5/6h - 1/4 = 7/12 h
                        Bala --> 1/6 h more than David --> 7/12h + 1/6 h = 9/12h = 3/4 h

                        cheers.
