phtthp:
example: tingxie list in P1 (10 words)

一 yi

五 wu

鱼 yu

雨 yu

我 wo

鸦 ya

蛙 wa

窝 wo

牙 ya

袜 wa

based on above tingxie list (10 words) :-
if a child can’t articulate or pronounce the hypy tone (1 to 4) correctly, now can start introduce nouns related to each word.
As child begin to articulate each noun aloud, the sound articulated helps child in hypy tone. To help the child pronounce correctly, besides expose child to more “ci yu” vocabulary.

example

什 么\t雨 ?
雨 伞, 雨 衣, 下 雨

什 么\t鸦\t?\t
乌 鸦

什 么\t蛙\t?\t
青 蛙\t

什 么\t窝\t?\t
鸟 窝\t

什 么 \t牙 \t?
牙 齿, 刷 牙, 牙 刷, 蛀 牙

什 么 \t袜 ?
袜 子

===============================================
also provide a list for Translation - so that the child is trained bilingual.

example

雨 伞\t\tumbrella\t\t

雨 衣\t\traincoat

下 大 雨\t raining heavily

乌 鸦\t\tblack crow\t

青 蛙\t\tfrog

鸟 窝\t\tbird nest

牙 齿\t\tteeth

刷 牙\t\tbrush teeth

牙 刷\t\ttooth brush

蛀 牙 tooth decay (if never brush teeth properly)

洋 娃 娃\tdoll\t

布 娃 娃\trag cloth doll\t\t

袜 子\t\tsocks

Very detailed guide.. Thank u so much! 😄

How’s k2 in sg? Do they have hw everyday? My ds only have reading hw once a week. As far i know they dont practice spelling at school. So far i’ve yet to do anything regularly with him. I find him capable but unmotivated to say the very least. Constantly day dreaming and fiddling when completing a task. i try to understand and its ok with me that he’s unable to do the syllabus but it worries me that he doesnt have the right attitude.
hihi, my dd is going to P1 in 2014. she doesnt attend enrichm class, only pcf k2 and self taught. hope that she wouldnt be lagging behind the average students.

so far no tingxie fr her sch.

My dd1 didn't have tingxie when she was in K2 and she didn't have any issue with tingxie in P1. She does not have Chi enrichment too. But we do speaks Mandarin at home.

My ds have tingxie when he was in K1 and K2, we speak minimal Mandarin at home n he did not attend any enrichment classes.. but he still have prob with tingxie during P1, now slightly better.. thus i feel it is all based on individual child..

U may juz start preparing her like what phtthp suggested earlier. 😉
Thanks for the comments mummies (assumming all ladies)!

my dd does speak mandarin at hm. i am not sure if she can write chinese words (excluding those she does in sch), cos i dont ask her to practise writing. not yet.

phtthp: u are spot on. i do believe in home teaching and against spending $ & giving the job to other teachers in some enrichm sch. struggling a little to do teaching at hm cos there are so much to cover! english, chinese, maths, reading books in both languages + so little time (both parents work full time & we hav a younger girl).

on one hand, i want my kids to enjoy their childhood, learn at their pace. on the other hand, i am worried if i am not kiasu now (or rather, not kiasu Enough) & that might cause later troubles/stress when i find out that she has much to catch up.

Hmmm, it depends on what you want, what your kids can handle and which school your child will go to.

If you are afraid of your kids to lose out, tuition and enrichment centres they cover the syllabus in advance and then they cover 1-2 level up, depending on centres some dont cover foundation, they just go 1-2 level up. So to ensure your kids will not lose out, you have to plan their academic learning accordingly. But if that's not what you want the it's fine too, monitor the situation and plan accordingly.

I have learned to trust my dd1, her teachers are doing their job. Her achool's pace match my lifestyle. I know she's behind in areas like compo writing and bombastic vocabulary. But looking at her progress from K1 to now and what she has achieved, I'm ok. Plus my aim for PSLE is 230++. So I'm not so stressed up. heehee

I will likely send her to the neighbourhood sch just across the road where we live. I am not afraid that she will lose out to the Tops, just want her to be at least of average standard *am i making sense? middle-dose Kiasu mummy*
