My DD has homework everyday since the first week of orientation. Mainly Maths, HCL and English which can be time consuming cos have to find out etymology of words so always googling... Unsure how much details to include.

How do we know which daily work is graded?

Rainowyabby, what is a portfolio and why is SS family tree a \"first entry\"?

        Many thanks.

Daily work is filing, and literally all worksheets. A portfolio (p4-p6)is virtually a collection a self selected or self created stuff, and others:

        Portfolio=artefact(self selected/created), commentary, reflection.

It is a first entry as they are just starting! Mainstream doesn't have these things.

Have you started on the artefact ? Which topic did you choose ? Mine on some animals ... :scratchhead: I think it's a writeup on some animal ...

Later on, you need to do some interviewing of a relative n do a writeup on him or her. That's the 2nd entry.

I really do not know why it's different either. And actually it's quite a big difference. Looking at the planned curriculum... DD will learn a lot from the module, other the usual PowerPoint etc also includes video editing, animation, photojourno etc. Every week 2 hours after school.

Everyone, how's the homework load so far?
Same, 2 hrs each week after school.

So, conclusion is that the GEP curriculum is not as centrally managed as the MOE GE Branch would like to believe. In terms of worksheet, so far, I’ve seen 1 Maths worksheet, nothing for Sci and MT. I heard there are some English worksheets kept in school.

Among the subjects, HCL is the most taxing for ds. Has already done a few Chinese writings on top of activity book, tingxie & worksheets. Almost completing Chapter 3.

With DS1 in P6 and DS2 in P4, yes I can say that there is some difference in approach in the 9 GEP schools which reflects on the individual character of each school. Thank goodness for that!!!

So although materials, projects, tests and exams are the same, each school has the flexibility in delivery so long as the intent and content of the GE Branch is delivered to the child.

So for new GEP parents please do not get confused or agitated if 1 GEP school is different from the other, it is to be expected. Just follow your DC’s school program and pace and do not worry about the other 8 GEP schools. Each school knows what it has to achieve and the GE Branch keeps a close eye but light touch on each GEP school.

Quite right. Also, is anyone stressed? hope not. for maths you can expect to be doing one level higher stuff, and heuristics.

You mean your kids are place in diff GEP centres?

Anyway, I have heard feedback that the current GEP is much watered down as compared to, say, 4~5 years ago, especially for Math. Not sure if it's because diff school wil have diff focus, esp all-boy vs all-girl, or the overall curriculum have changed.

Can I check if anyone know if the photojournal project is graded, as in if the marks count towards exam marks??

                        Thanks!
