        Hi cfan

        Thanks for the 2 updates.

        Yup, I was @ the briefing this afternoon.
        Was breaking out in sweat when the teacher started the briefing on Chinese curriculum.
        My gal is in CL-5, so that makes her on the borderline of 'relegating' to the weak-in-Chinese catergory.
        Told my gal that I will be speaking to her in Chinese more often from now on, luckily she is rather receptive to the idea.
        Guess students in CL-1 and CL-2 now have the 'unfair' advantage of a head-start, since they are now being taught more advance stuff like 弟子规.

        Nevertheless, would never say die....will continue to work hard with my gal....slowly from CL5 -> CL4 -> CL3 -> CL2 -> CL1 -> A* for Chinse PSLE. 😉

        Oh....I remembered posting about die die not sending my gal to Chinse tuition....everybody please ignore that 😓 ....decided to succumb to pressure...gal will be starting her Chinese tuition this Saturday. :oops:

          Ah bee,

          Thanks for sharing too. What do they say abt the curriculum in P2? It seems like there is more emphasis on the Chinese curriculum. I didn’t know students CL1-2 are taught more advanced stuff. My gal is in CL2, I am a bit worried that she might not catch up this year if the curriculum is too advanced for her class. I find it too advanced in P1 cos my chinese is not good esp in reading.

            It was quite the contary for my briefing, I felt that more emphasis was placed on English. Chinese briefing was over in 15mins.

            According to the Chinese teacher who briefed us:
            CL-1 & CL-2 => student who are strong in Chinese; lessons covered main core in the textbook and 'advance' stuff like DiZiGui.
            CL-3, 4 & 5 => more emphaaiss on main core content from text; no advance learining content
            CL-6 & CL-7 => introductory + main core content
            All 3 categories have main core content as the backbone of the learning, so CA/SA will be tested based on the main core.

            As for English wise, not much....the usual stuff....the form teacher of my gal (happened to be the English HOD as well) explained what is STELLAR, USSR, what parents can do to help improve the child's English, her method of teaching in class, her expectations of the student...the teacher is damn on....glad my gal is under her.

            Least covered was Maths....only briefed us that the students are learning addition to 1000, model drawing.

            That's all I can remember.

              No worries, we all want the best for our child
              My girls go for Berries, they started when in Nursery and I expect to continue for some time
              I also coach them individually, I might even need to find Speech & Drama class for them if I feel the \"Show & Tell\" is getting difficult.... just my opinion
              Don't think too much about whether you are sending for tuition or not

              My reply to \"people\" who says my kids have no \"childhood\"
              If they cannot manage schoolwork, you think who will be stress??
              The parent, the child or the \"people\"????

              Cheers :rahrah: Let's \"jia you\" together

                Don't be too stress, just make sure they can follow up to the words that they need to know in text (as a base) The rest will fall in when they grow up, I think most important is that they must not \"hate\" the language
                If they are still \"ok\" with the language they will be able to follow

                You can use Google Translate to read the chinese words, just type the words in and choose both language as chinese, press loudspeaker, \"voila\" the words will come out

                  Totally agree with cfan. As long the kids do not hv stress attending the extra class or tuition, it is totally fine. Ah bee, it is only natural for parents to send their kids for tuition if they know the kids need the extra help. I also might let my kids go for tuition if they face difficulties in catching up in class.

                    Cfan,

                    Thanks for the tips. Yes, I did try google search to do translation. Sometimes I get stressed up cos I had difficulties in my studies when I was young n I didn’t enjoy school very much, I am afraid my kids would be like me but it seems like my gal did better than me.
