Oh is there chinese comics for young age like 4 or 5 yrs old?I find Chinese comics and Chinese cartoons a great help.
I use these to stimulate children's interest, then do a lot of repetition of the same words in different formats - flash cards, storybooks, ebooks, calligraphy etc.
without interest and love for the language, it's not easy to go far... -
I remember seeing some interesting Chinese books for young children in 友联书局 at Bras Basah Complex. There's another bookshop nearby.
Perhaps you could source for these and if it's too expensive, then order directly from China.

Greetings Folks!
Hope someone can help.
We have a 7-yr-old child who’s now attending P1.
We would like to her to continue her Chinese enrichment classes [from Tien Hsia] since we don’t speak Chinese at home (we are Malay).
Our child started her weekly class in Tien Hsia when she is in K1
Unfortunately Tien Hsia, Han Language School and a few others are now catering to P1 syllabus.
Is there any parents with same situation and have successfully done something that’s effective for his/her child?
Please share what you did, we want to learn how.
Thank you very much in advance. -
We also do not speak Mandarin at home. DC went to Tien Hsia for both enrichment and comprehension classes. We also had 1-1 tuition at the same time.
Group classes which are small will give opportunity for child to interact in Mandarin in a small class setting with other children. TH is an enrichment prog.
1-1 tuition is necessary to find out what aspect of Mandarin is weak such as oral, compo or compre and for tutor to focus on that area. So tutor focuses on strengthening weak areas.
Also child should be made to read Chinese newspaper 1-2x a week on short articles and to ask tutor for help in understanding difficult words and how to pronounce them. This will build up vocab for compo.
Also child should watch Chinese cartoons on weekend mornings to get to listen and enjoy Mandarin in a fun way.
Try to get child to read at least 1 Chinese comic book per month also to pick up vocab in a fun way. -
Hi,
Any good 1-1 chinese tutor for a primary school boy? I am in particularly looking at innovative and fun teaching, like using pictures/drawings to associate chinese words.
I am staying at east.
Thank you -
Original Title: How best to teach your kid chinese?
Hi fellow parents,
I would like to seek some advise.
My soon-to-be 3yr old son doesn't seem to have an interest in learning chinese. We speak mainly english back home with only his grandma speaking chinese.
Any ideas on how I can start? Any successful stories? Open to sending him for tuition as i understand its best for a child to pick up a language before the age of 6.
Thanks in advance

What are the tested and proven ways that you parents have used in teaching your kids Chinese.
Thanks in advance

Environment environment environment!! The child needs to be provided with the Chinese-speaking environment. I would strongly suggest that you start speaking to him in Chinese, read to him Chinese stories every night, and exposed to him as much Chinese as possible. Language is best learnt that way rather than tuition, especially when your son is still young!

Hi MommyNg,
Thanks for the feedback, that I understand but both my husband and I can't speak mandarin well so how will that work out? Will home based learning apps help? We can use that to sing and teach the kids.
Any good ones to recommend? I understand some tuition centres here offers HBL.
Think it will be useful for english speaking parents like us
