My DS does not have a habit of filing since his primary school days. His bag would pile up all the worksheets (done or not done, marked or unmark). He cleared them only each term breaks. I am seeing his school bag getting heavier and heavier now and he still refuses to file them according to the subjects. I am leaving him alone and letting him do what he wants. Hopefully he will realize that things are different in secondary school now. He only being ferried one way to school and I expect him to take bus back. I think give him another few weeks, he will know the consequence as he has to lug the heavier school bag to take public transport and is a long ride homeIn S1, is there still spelling or dictation for Mother Tongue/English ?
Kafer, do students normally keep the subject files eg. History,Geography etc in the locker or bring to-and-forth ? Reason for asking is that I am concerned about the weight of the school bag (+laptop) but if leave the files in locker, it is like out-of-sight-out-of-mind ?
Uniforms - I find there is balling (布面起毛) on the uniforms after a few wash. Is it just us ?
I do not see such problem in the school uniform. So far so good ... -
My friend told me that her son does not do amy filing as such during exam period his file is empty and he has problem revising.
-
Thanks all.
Kafer, are you a parent or student ?
but my son claimed he doesn't know which worksheets the teacher will be covering so he left the whole file in the locker :slapshead:
Zekezachzoom, my boy also bad in filing ! Now he is leaving everything in the locker. Is the locker so big ? :scratchhead: -

Teacher asked ds to re-submit his CCA choices as he said difficult to allocate any of his 6 choices. However, when we login in, we found that 3 of his previous CCA choices did not show full allocation. Is it advisable to select these 3 choices again or better to select 6 other choices?

Maybe the vacancies are for those short-listed during CCA trial. Best option is to seek clarification from teacher. It is a bit unusual that the school is not able to grant at least one of the 6 choices. Do you mind to share what is his choices? -

Sec 2 parents,
Can you advise, if it is necessary for the Sec1s to supplement their hw with assessment books, particularly for geography and history? My son has stopped all tuition classes since after PSLE, and so far most hw he gets is mostly research work using the computer, with minimal worksheet-based hw, mostly for Maths
If need to, is there any specific assessment books you recommend? I am not sure different schools use different geography/history textbooks so the topics they teach are different across schools, which means only certain assessments are relevant to the pace of SJI’s curriculum
Thanks. -
My s1 ds got into his dream cca. So happy!

Is it easy to switch from o level to IP in SJI

The zec,
are you a student ? You can refer to page 4 of the Lower Secondary Student Guide. The exact criteria and the number of AU (academic units) required are stated. You can decide if those criterias are difficult or easy to achieve.
The IP track is newly introduced this year so I guess no historical experience to share. -
JRLam:
JRLam, thanks for asking. My son also has no tuition. I have the same questions too. Hope Sec 2/3/4 parents can share some experience. For Geography, I read the HOD's letter-to-parents that this year is 1st year of new syllabus and 1st year not using textbook. Would appreciate any comments re: Mother Tongue/History/Maths/English ....Sec 2 parents,

I think the only assessment that would be relevant would be MT only. They still sit for the same O levels exams. -
Hi All Parents of Sec 1 who has sons who joined NCC Land,
Understood that there is a camp this Fri to Sat. Wonder if you were told to buy some of the stuffs (mess tin, tommy stove, etc) on our own or to buy from school NCC or they will provide? Any idea if they were told that they need to wear their No 4 uniform?
If so, need to quickly search for a store selling all of these.
Thanks -

I don't know whether or not you need to buy those stuff for NCC (Land) camp. For scout's camp, the letter from Scout CCA comes with a form for you to specify whether you want to buy these items or not.
In case NCC land does not have this form and you need to buy it yourself, I think you can get it from the Scout Headquarter at Bishan. -

Sorry for the late response and thanks for the advice. Unfortunately the list from NCC is not as detail as that of scout's. Anyway, went down to Beach Road where all the camping stuffs could be found.
Cheers!
