      Oracle:
      Yes Speedmath, I got it. Just have to put Serene on the same platform & everything becomes clear.

      However this is a \"whole number\" question. Son hasn't been taught ratio yet so perhaps got to use MathIzzzFun's workings but I wonder how the common numerator 60 come about.

      Could MathIzzzFun enlighten me please.

      Thank you very much.
      lowest common multiple of 3, 4, 10. You can choose any common multiple but lowest one preferred
      for easier calculations.

      cheers

            There are some crystal and glass marbles in a pouch. If 3 crystal marbles are removed from the pouch, the number of crystal marbles left will be 1/6 of the glass marbles left. If 5 glass marbles are removed from the pouch, the number of crystal marbles left will be 1/4 of the glass marbles left. How many marbles are there in the pouch at first?

            Solution given as
            6u= 4u+ 43+5
            6u=4u+12+5
            6u-4u=12+5
            2u=17
            1u=8.5
            6u+3=7
            8.5+3
            =59.5+3
            =62.5…
            Am not able to understand…pl help…

              Lim had some stickers and stamps for his class. The number of stickers was half as many as the number of stamps. After each pupil in the class had received 3 stickers and 8 stamps from Lim. He had 39 stickers and 2 stamps left. What was the total number of stickers and stamps Lim had at first?

                Hi

                Please take a look at this similar question.

                Your question was discussed on page 59 of this thread earlier.

                Based on the question as worded, the answer is 62.5.

                At first
                Crystal marbles ----- 1 unit + 3
                Glass marbles ------ 6 units

                In the end
                Crystal marbles ----- 1 part
                Glass marbles ------ 4 parts

                Again, equalise the parts or cross multiply.

                (1 unit + 3)*4 ------- 6units - 5
                4 units + 12 ------- 6 units – 5

                2 units ------ 17
                1 unit ------ 8.5

                Crystal marbles ------- 11.5
                Glass marbles ------- 51
                Total number of marbles -------- 62.5

                Best wishes

                  Hi,

                  Need help on this problem sum:

                  Jenny bought two rabbits. For each day after the first day of the week, the rabbits ate 40g more than the previous day. the rabbits grew fast, finishing 2450g of food in the first week. How much food did the rabbits eat on the first day?

                  Thanks

                      Hi

                      It helps to draw a simple sketch.

                      In the end

                      Stickers ------- 39 + 3units

                      Stamps ------- 2 + 8units

                      The number of stickers was half as many as the number of stamps.

                      78 + 6units ------- 2 + 8units

                      76 ------ 2units

                      38 ------ 1unit

                      Number of stickers@first ------ 39 + 3*38 ------ 153

                      Number of stampss@first ------ 306

                      Best wishes
