      Hi pls help

      Ali left town A and travelled towards town B at speed of 90km/h.
      45min later, Muthu left town B and travelled town A at speed of 120km/h.
      Town X was halfway between town A and town B. Ali passed town X half an hour after Muthu had passed town X. Both speeds did not change throughout the journey. If Muthu reached town A at 2.45pm, at what time did Ali leave town A?

      Thanks!

      Time taken by Ali to travel from A to X = 4 x 75 min = 5h
      Total time taken by Ali to travel fro A to X = 10h
      10h before 2.45pm --> 4.45am
      Ali left at 4.45am

      Hi, i'm new here and happen to see this question being posted.

      My solution is: We should be finding time taken by Muthu to travel from B to A= 2x3u=450minutes=7.5 hrs

      Hence, time Muthu left Town B =7.5hrs before 2.45pm ( being the time Muthu reached town A) =7.15am

      Given that Muthu left Town B 45minutes after Ali left Town A, hence time Ali left Town A =6.30am ( 45 minutes before 7.15am )

      Please feel free to correct me if am wrong. Thanks a lot!

      cheers.

        My earlier posting came out wrongly. Sorry! 😓 Here's the amended version.

          I have misread as Ali reached at 2. 45pm.

          Thanks for highlighting the error, your working is correct - Ali left at 6. 30am

          cheers.

            Hi MathsGuru,

            Please help my child with these questions.

            Q: There were a total of 930 boys and girls at a carnival. After 4/5 of the boys and 3/4 of the girls left there were 120 more girls than boys that remained. How many boys were at the carnival at first?

            Q: 94 children took part on a lucky draw and 32 of them won a prize. 1/8 of the girls and 4/5 of the boys won a prize. How many girls did not win a prize.

            Please help…thanks alot.

              Firstly, I m not mathsguru ...mathsguru is the user who started this thread.

              Q1.
              Number of boys remaining (1/5) --> 1 unit --------- total number of boys --> 5 units

              Number of girls remaining (1/4) --> 1 unit + 120 ----- total number of girls --> 4 units + 480

              Total number of boys and girls
              = 9 units + 480 --> 930
              1 unit --> 50

              Total number of boys at first --> 5 x 50 = 250

              Q2.
              1/8 girls + 4/5 boys --> 32
              4/32 girls + 4/5 boys --> 32
              1/32 girls + 1/5 boys --> 8

              32/32 girls + 5/5 boys --> 94
              27/32 girls + (5/32 girls + 5/5 boys) --> 94
              27/32 girls --> 94 - 5 x 8 = 54
              1/32 girls --> 2 ------- total number of girls --> 64
              Number of girls who did not win any prize = 7/8 x 64 = 56

              cheers.

                Hi,

                Can someone please help me to solve these two questions?

                Q1: The ratio of Sasi’s age to his father’s age is 2:7 at present. In twelve years’ time, the ratio will become 2:5. Find Sasi’s present age.

                Q2: Ken and Clark went shopping. The ratio of money Ken had to what Clark had was 6:5. The amount each of them spent was in the ratio 3:2 respectively. Ken spent 1/4 of his money. What was the ratio of the amount Ken had left to the amount Clark had left?

                Thank you.

                  Can someone please help me to solve these two questions?

                  Q1: The ratio of Sasi's age to his father's age is 2:7 at present. In twelve years' time, the ratio will become 2:5. Find Sasi's present age.

                  Thank you.
                  Q1- age difference remains the same ... so equalize the difference in ratio parts

                  at present, sasi's age : father's age = 2:7 --> 6u : 21u (difference = 15u)
                  in 12 years' time, sasi's age : father's age = 2:5 --> 10u : 25u (difference = 15u)

                  10u - 6u = 4u --> 12 years
                  1u --> 3 years

                  Sasi's present age --> 6 x 3 = 18 years old

                  Q2.. Ken's spending : Clark's spending -> 3u : 2u
                  Ken spent 1/4 of his money,
                  so, At first, Ken's money : Clark's money -> 12u : 10u (ratio of 6:5)

                  Money left, Ken : Clark --> 9u : 8u = 9 : 8

                  cheers.

                        Is it 10 + 15 + 15 - 12 = 28 (units that whole figure has)
                        Shaded: 6 + 6 = 12

                        Answer: 16/28

                        Is this correct?
