Hi. First time posting. Long time browsing this forum. I’m wondering if anyone can give me advice about enrichment class for P1 child. My son is in P1E and he’s a bit weak in math (meaning no interest). I’ve looked at several math enrichment classes for P1 around Serangoon and Ang Mo Kio area. Seems like the P1 Math classes are not filled at all and thus can’t open up a class. I mean, for P1 is it necessary to take math enrichment class yet… or just buying assessment books from bookstore will do? Same goes for the English and Chinese class? Thanks in advance.

Hi Fon
My son is in P1B and he's currently attending MPM Math class in Ang Mo Kio. He has been attending since he was in K2. It's once or twice a week and after each lesson, he will bring back 2 workbooks to be completed. You may want to check out the link to find out more: http://sg.mpmmath.com/
For Chinese, my son's currently attending Tienhsia P1 class to learn hanyu pingyin. He's quite weak in his Chinese language and i had feedback from TGPS teacher that my son is quite blur in class and doesn't really understand what she said.
For his English tuition, i'm engaging a private tutor for him as he doesn't speak up in class and weak in forming sentences. Through 1-1 private tuition, i'm hoping that the tutor is able to strengthen his weakness and and encourage him to speak up more.
If your son is coping well in his language skills, i think it's not necessary to send him for enrichment classes. Getting him to do assessment books should be sufficient.

Hi Fon,
Welcome to the forum. Glad to hear from more parents in this forum. Feel free to drop by often to share with us anything about your parenthood.
My boys are not attending any subject related enrichment classes now. I hope to delay this as long as I can as personally I believe tuition should be the last resort. Besides enrichment class, you can try to cultivate interest in Math for your boy. Once he has the interest, he will put in more effort to understand it. That will carry him a long way. Math can be dry or fun depending how the learning is conducted. You can look for math related material that make it like a game. The library or the school learning portal may be a good start. You can also play game with him to help him to gain concept of counting at home. Playing monopoly or shopping is a fun way to learn addition and subtraction. My boys are not interested in Chinese. So I let them watch Chinese programme on TV, Chinese detective cartoon (eg. 柯南 since they like detective stories) and borrow interesting Chinese stories books from library and read with them together. This is a longer and slower way but i think the effect will last longer. Now at least they start talking to me in chinese whenever I use Chinese and not avoiding it. Hope this sharing with you helps. -
Thank you all for the advice. I think I may be at fault in not instilling his interest in math because I myself don’t like math and remembered being scared of math in primary school. But I sure will look into some online math games. Recommendations appreciated.
So, even with or without enrichment classes, how do you review schoolwork (lessons taught that week) with your kids every day? -
For me, i find it difficult to do daily revision as i do not know what was taught on a daily basis in school. I guide my DD to do assessment daily as a time filler. Already a habit. Already she’s enjoying herself with asknlearn portal. Liked the videos inside. Other than that, I take note of what questions she’s weak in while doing assessment and modify them for her to do.

Hi Fon and Beauty,
I do not do daily revision with both DSs as well. DS1 has homework almost everyday after he moves to P3. S I just make sure he can do his homework and that is an indication that he understand the material. May be on a weekly basic, I give him some assessment work (mainly on Chinese) as supplement.
The P1 DS has been more relax :-). I also just give him weekly assessment just to keep him occupied when the elder brother is working on his homework :-).
But I think talking to the kid and ask him to tell you what he learn in school is also a good way. If he can tell you what he learns, he should be good. But someday the teacher may be just doing some revision and he may not have much to tell you so don’t be too alarm on that too. -
Thanks for the reply. Then, I think I’m overdoing it with daily revision. After a while it seems like there’s not much to review.
Oh, I don’t count on asking my son what he learns in school. It’s always "I don’t know" and he’s very unclear about which page the teacher went through today.
I try going into asknlearn portal. What is that about? -
For the asknlearn portal, u may access it via school website. Login and password are bc number

Hi, hope you don't mind me joining. The slides of 3D is available in asknlearn, MyTask tab. Slides also include photos of our children which were nicely done. Realized the SA1 and SA2 are weighted. Does it mean T1 and T2 are not counted towards end of year report?Hi Astee,
Like what you mentioned the forum has a lot to digest. I did not have time to think and take note but here is what I have:
Online homework will starts on week 7th with P1 to P3 on odd week while the rest on even week.
Unlike P2 that only has SA1, P3 will have both SA1 and SA2 on top of the term tests. Normally SA1 takes only small percentage while SA2 is often larger than 60%.
There will be talent development programme for sport for P3 this year. There will also be a 1 day stay over adventure camp on 3 June for the P3 kids. External vendors will be hired to organize the camp.
P3 kids will be trained on MS Words as part of the ICT baseline skill. This term, the kids are doing digital art during their art lesson so they are exposed to art and ICT at the same time.
There is this bReading4PS program to train the students on presentation skill. TEH school feel that that is an important skill that will carry a long way for them.
The teacher also shares some important dates:
5 Feb- LJ to Zoo
28 March - heritage tour to Chinatown
3 June - one day adventure camp
31May - next MTP. This one will be the one to one session
1July - school health service visit
August -GEP FOR P3
Astee and Bluebellas,
Feel free to add on to my note. Thanks

As I also find slides for Primary 1G in asknlearn, I think the mummies and daddies can find their child's class slides in asknlearn.
Hope it helps those who did not attend the MTP briefing. Cheers! -
Hi all,
May i take this opportunity to wish all Chinese a Prosperous Lunar New Year and i trust that our non-chinese friends had also enjoyed the long weekends.
Hello Bond,
Welcome to the TGPS thread and we welcome all parents, young or old...oops i mean the children of young ages and upper primary.
Thanks for sharing the MTP slides info on asknlearn. Yes, during the MTP, i asked the same question to the Co-FT and she mentioned that the CAs for P3 are not taken into consideration for the overall score. The 2 main ones are SA1/SA2, which was the same during my girl's time.
This year in P5, CA plays a certain %. So i guess eventhough CA for P3 are not taken into consideration, we must still stressed its importance to our child, so they will not think lightly of the tests and treat them with seriousness. :xedfingers:Bond:
