Hi. Thought I’d share my experience and update from my comments on page 1…

My DS2 was with HGK from Nursery and we pulled him out midway in K1. I realized that he wasn’t learning in K1 and he did not like going to school. He refused to speak Chinese and could not remember the words in his Chinese storybook. He was not happy.
I am relieved that after we switched kindergarten. He is happier and looks forward to going to school.
I don’t know what is the latest update after the principal left and I wish Holy Grace all the best. This kindergarten has been around for over 30, perhaps 40 years or more years… It was THE kindergarten to send your children to if you wanted them to be proficient in Chinese. It would be a shame if the current kindergarten board continues to lose the focus that has made HGK what it was for so many years.
My DS1 attended HGK under the previous management and scored an A* in Chinese and a distinction in higher Chinese in PSLE. I credit HGK and his teachers for giving that solid foundation and interest in Chinese. We are an English speaking family and DS1 was monolingual when he started Kindergarten. It is a pity that DS2 will not share in his elder brother’s experience.
I sincerely wish this Kindergarten all the very best and hope that it regains its focus on its previous strengths.

Hi, does anyone have updates on this kindy since the new principal took over in Sept last year? I am considering this kindy for my DD. Am a bit concern that at N1 and N2 levels they don’t teach English even though we are a English speaking family. Thanks.

My son is with HG now in N2. We are also a predominantly english-speaking family and we enrolled him in this school for the sole reason that the school teaches 100% chinese at nursery levels. Although the Principal is new and looks rather inexperienced (if I may say so), she was very hands-on with the kids and the teachers. I saw her carrying the crying kids and even feeding the children, instead of being seated at the cushy office during the school hours. She seems helpful and earnest and I like her. School also seems fun and my son has been enjoying school. A good variety of food is served at snack-time like macaroni, sandwiches and chee cheong fun.

HC_Parent, thanks for the update. How are the teachers, the communication/feedback to parents and the enrichment classes? Sorry so many questions. My daughter will also be in N2.

Hi all,I’m keen to have my son in Holy Grace due to the walking distance from home and their focus in Mandarin in class.

However I wish to find out more about the reviews of this kindy since the turnover has been so high due to previous principal.
Kindly share your experience so far with the school this year.
                      Greatly appreciate!

                        Hi siglaplover,

I went to the school today to sign up my son for N1 cos everywhere are full and I missed the registration. I spoke to the new principal about the teachers and she told me the current batch teachers has stayed with them for 2 years plus and they all are dedicated. New principal has 20plus year experiences in this field and she has taught in many childcare and kindergarten before. She seems to be a nice lady. Since it’s only a 10min bus ride from my house so it’s not too bad. His current classmate parent from gug told me they find the teachers dedicated and also it’s becos of the Chinese program they send the kids there. They had an older son who is alr studying there and the daughter who is same age as my son will be joining next year for N1. Anyway I thgt no harm joining and see how is the situation first since there is no place for him everywhere. My intention is to let my son go St Hilda kindergarten but since there is no place for N1 so I might let him join N2 and let him build a strong foundation in Chinese first. I don’t have confidence in HGK yet as the are too many negative comments on the school so there is still room to observe. Since the school is walking distance from your house you shd consider the school. How old is your son next year?
