You see. Our employment situation isn't as rosy as it appears to be

          http://singaporemind.blogspot.sg/2011/10/unemployment-truththe-real-statistics.html

The gist: Employment rate of 77% of employable is good number - among the top in the world. But we do not have minimum wage policy like those countries in the table. if we minus all workers that can't make a minimum wage, the unemployment number become as bad or even worse than many of the countries in the table. Conclusion: Our employment situation isn't as good as it is painted by the numbers.

‎"The trouble with the government is not that it lacks 20/20 foresight in infrastructure development, but that it fails to recognize that the problem is its immigration policy in the first place. The problems of low birth rates and ageing population lie in a social and physical environment that is not conducive to family life. Therefore, the solutions must be sought by focusing on promoting the quality of life of Singaporean families. By focusing on immigration, the government is using the cause of the problems today as the solution for tomorrow." – Mr Low Thia Khiang

Evidently and obviously many many of you still refuse to recognize the dwindling Singaporean people and its attendant dire consequences.

Such a bunch of ostriches burying theirs heads in the sand imported from foreign lands and pretend nothing is going to happen. Hey it is warm and cosy under the sand yeah

The release of the White Paper is at its best, a classic case study of what NOT to do in PR and corporate communications.

At the worst, it shows a lack of political will to take a more imaginative creative and courageous route to handle long standing issues in population planning, competitiveness and nation building. in a way, it is the lazy way out, shifting potential problems that will arise from this to the next generation of citizens and government. We don't have to shoulder the consequences. Our children and grandchildren will. Current PAP members will not need to handle integration issues, the pieces will be for future government to pick up. The current slate will be remembered for the economic powerhouse they transform Singapore, the negatives will be just a footnote.

Singapore Inc has overtaken Singapore dream. Figures have overtaken actual human experiences. Do you want to suck it up? There is no right or wrong, just a choice for you and your future generations.

If that is the case, the alternative is to stay put, enjoy the fruits from the current trees. If there are no problems in future, the current slate will still be remembered for the economic powerhouse they transform Singapore. If there are any problem in future, leave it to the children and grandchildren to find a solution themselves. 🆒

                  From LLL

\"In a recent ST report, Singapore sees an average of 12,000 abortions a year, and 4 out of 10 women who went for abortions were single women. Reducing the discrimination against single mothers may reduce the likelihood of single mothers having to resort to terminating their pregnancies for fear of lack of support. Furthermore, for a country suffering from a fertility crisis, each child should be valued, and not punished simply because he or she is born to unmarried parents.\"

Are we as a society, ready for this?

It depends on your family’s position in the food chain. If you are high up the chain, the good life is yours. And high up the chain now is infinitely higher than before. It is not necessarily a bad thing, but nuanced handling is needed.

There has been a lot of focus on the downsides of the PAP plan. Anyone figure out the downsides of the WP plan should they fail to execute?

There are no perfect plans, it is always about finding a balance, about what to give more. Someone somewhere will have to give up something for someone else in any scenario. The question now is what do we as a society value and want to leave for our children. The current policies will not have too much bearing on us. We are so fortunate, exactly on the crest of the wave.
