those chargeable type of vacuum cleaners are not lasting...charge for long time but goes flat very fast. i have a karcher vacuum standup type but now collecting dust

So tired of vacuuming, that's why die die must get irobot type. Did ask around on the standup type, said charging about 6-8 hours but usage less than an hour. Thinking of getting those car-type handheld or use 除尘纸 for corners.

I am also considering to get a hand-held vacuum cleaner, just to vacuum the kids' room during weekday. I use Dyson wired vacuum cleaner during the weekend for the entire hosue and I love my Dyson! The floor feels so clean after that.

I have not tried a car-type hand-held for house. But I can imagine it will be very tiring on the back since you have to bend/squat down and stand up for every corner.

i have an iclebo. DW swore by it initially, as we’ll just let it run while we do our own things, even read papers or watch tv. it doesn’t clean 100% but it does decent job at removing the hairs and small particles that can gather all so quickly on the floor (cos our place is unblocked and there is strong wind = lots of dust). the drawbacks are that it will not be able to reach/vacuum corners (definitely) and edges (depending) as it is round. and if you have lots of furniture or other stuff on the floor, it’s going to be difficult for the machine to work well. It is supposed to have a computer and can scan and remember a route, but the moment you move something away it spoils the memory it builds up along the route. If you have carpet or rug or even a chair with narrow legs that can avoid detection by the camera on the machine, it might knock on the chair or go onto the carpet, and the direction could be affected, thus affecting the memory/route and in turn causing it not to clean thoroughly.


Still, these are things that we can live with so we stuck to it for almost a year, using it at least once a week, if not more.

We only stopped using it as much in the last 3 months, when we decided to get a part time maid to come in once a week to clean up the house.

It is good to have those autobots to clean the house.


I used a supposed 4-in-1 robot to clean the house on most weekday nights.

It does a decent job like what atrecord mentioned.

The Robotic Cleaners should last a good 3-5 years, replacements of batteries should be done very 1.5-2 years and filters and brushes need to be change every 3 months or so, depending on usage.
The Iclebo Arte ($749) is a model you can consider. The iRobot Roomba is probably the most durable model and in most cases would last many years, even if there is any damaged or faulty parts, you can always just replace the faulty part at a low cost and it would be as good as new!!

I think my irobot is one of the best investments I have made, in terms of household appliances and their respective prices. While I still ‘manual clean’ the floor (either magic clean tissue wipe or normal vacuum cleaner), I think irobot saves me a lot of time and effort. The only thing I miss is probably the hot and sweaty work out after a thorough clean session.


Recently I inherited a handheld vacuum (those normally used in car) from my parents. It comes with some additional parts like tubes and can all fit up into a ‘normal vacuum cleaner’ (with a shaft and brush at the end). Hey, not bad leh. It’s lighter and smaller, no wire! So it is very mobile. But I feel the lack of power. You need to ‘run’ a few times over the same spot to be effective. But over all, it complements my cleaning routine well.
