Even though I have been warned about the increased workload at P5, I must say I am still taken by surprise. From little to no homework the past 4 years, the kids are inundated with worksheets. Some days DD feels like she is being punished by all the teachers.


A gradual approach would have been better starting from lower primary. It's a major adjustment for the kids ie time management. The honeymoon period was too long and had set an overly relaxed pace. The only advantage of a relaxed reschedule is the time to pursue outside interests.

Not only is the workload heavier, the level of difficulty for Math is much higher. Given more time, DD would be better able to work through the sums. Now she is frantically trying to complete her homework. Not enough time to understand and digest the challenging questions. So quantity seems to be the order of the day as compared with quality.

We have the same problem too, dd had very little homework for P1 to P4 and although we are mentally prepared for a tougher year in P5, we are quite taken aback with the amount of homework she has been given.

Some parents complained and the teachers extended the deadline for handing in the work. It didn't help much as the teachers would just continue to add on more work the next day. So, the work piles up and dd has to spend her specious weekend clearing them, only to have the cycle repeats itself come Mondays.:stupid:

We have not had time to do revision or to tackle her weaker areas. Yesterday was her Higher MT practice paper and she had complained that there were many words which she has not come across. Not expecting much, just hope she can manage a pass. :xedfingers:

DS1 had heavy homework load since P3. But lately, we’d been doing tons of worksheets and homework till 10.45pm. It’s endless, and leaves him no time to go through his books ( e.g science). Anyway, I’m prepared that he will fail some subjects this CA ( Math and English especially) because last year, there were failures in the P5 cohort. The school is using tough papers to " wake up the children"… but I think it is demoralizing to the kids. Whatever it is, I told DS1 to do his best, and pray before he starts his papers.

We share the same sentiment. No time for revision, even when today is the start of CT1 exams, DD spent the whole of last afternoon on homework :slapshead: . I am just hopeful that the amount of homework DD has been doing would have reinforced her daily learning and prepared her sufficiently for this CT1. :xedfingers: :xedfingers: :xedfingers:

i think for P5/6 not only no life for the child but for the parents… perhaps only the super smart and super bo-chap can enjoy their life now…


i’m definitely not qualify for the 1st group but still thinking whether should i join the 2nd group…

i think having afternoons off makes a big difference.my boy has 2 afternoon offs a week this term and bulk of the little revision that he can get, falls on these 2 afternoons. that is like extra 4hrs a week with this 2 days off.

we use saturdays and sundays for revision and tuition homework - but the thing is, both also chinese subject! :faint:

Any of your kiddos opt out of the testing? With so much work and so little time, I value every opportunity for dd to be home early instead of having to stay back in school. We are thinking of opting out on all 4 areas of testing. Will we miss out on anything by not signing up? TIA

No harm signing up since no preparation is needed. It's during school hours. Take it as an exam practice.

I worried when so many of u said there was so much hmewk…not much hmewk was given to my DS1…some days, he has not even a pcs of hmewk. His teacher said she dun like to give hmewk but assured us the class has sufficient practices. No remedial or xtra classes too…remedials r given to selected kids that r weak.

Altho not much hmewk, he is not keen to revise…always daydream. Complaint of dication given by his chinese enrichmt classes.
