                  osim:
I was watching that video you put up about raw food but decided to save it for later as I want to watch together with my family. I want my children to know what is going on behind the food they eat everyday.  Will try to download a version for watching on TV. Thks for the link.

Coincidentally, I am currently reading the book \"The Omnivore Dilemma - the secrets behind what you eat\" by Michael Pollan. (wonder if that guy in the video is him)

It talks a lot on how the glut from corn farming due to hybrids and GM corn seeds from  companies has caused a whole chain of effect on the food and farming industry and affect the food we consume.

Now I understand why grass-fed cows and grain-fed chickens cost more than corn-fed ones.  They feed all these animals for human consumption with food unnatural to their diet because corn is so very cheap.

I read once in Time magazine about the extend one should go organic in their food consumption.  It was adviced that we can eat non organic for vegetables as pesticides can be washed off but for meat, milk and eggs, it is more important to go organic to avoid the hormone and antibiotics and not forgetting other drugs that they use on the animals to make the animals dopey so they don't fight in the crammed living space.
:thankyou: Osim...I managed to borrow the book \"The Omnivore Dilemma - the secrets behind what you eat\" by Michael Pollan. . A very good informative book...

                        Hi Dolphin,

Haven’t been around for a while because I was down with a bad cold. I am proud to say that it is my 1st cold in 5 years!

I see that you are very much into all these food and health issues. The info you referred us too was quite overwhelming for me I must say.

I’ve finished with the Omnivore Dilemma and thoroughly enjoy it. I finished the book feeling a little less guilty about eating meat but still think health wise, it is still better to consume less of it. What resonate with me in the author’s journey was his realization that what matter is not the death of the animal but how we had treated them when they were alive. Death is a momentary thing but it is the process of living that determines our well-being. and amount of suffering. As such, I strongly agree that giving due respect to the animals and their rights to have a proper environment to grow and become food on our plate is important.

However, it not very practical to walk the talk. I have considered strictly buying grass fed beef and other non-hormone/antibiotic chicken and pork. They are more than double in cost. I justified we can eat less since it cost more but then there is also the inconvenience as these meats can’t be bought from the normal markets.

With regards to high fructose corn sugar, I think if taken in moderation, should be okay. The fear is endless and we are very much tethered by what is available around us. I think as long as we eat everything in moderation, we will be fine.

Thank you so much for sharing.
