interest in the subject will sustain self-motivation towards learning. Same here, DD and many of her friends, they chose subjects combi. based on interest rather than scoring high GPA in that subject. We let her made that decision. Of course, there are girls that chose subjects based on what GPA they got or under parents' influence. We fully understand, she is the one reading and taking exams , not us as parents. So we gave her our full blessing based on her interest knowing that the long term interest towards that chosen subjects is critical towards her learning objectives :grphug: :hugs:

Can some senior advise how do RGS girl get to go overseas trip for CIP? Is it eg Sec 1 the whole cohort or they have to apply individually through different CCA/clubs/activities/etc? Also how frequent? :?:

my dd is in sec 2 this year. she in dilemma about choosing literature or geography in sec3. she likes lit but scores more for geog. she says it is difficult to score marks in lit.
i wish to get advise from someone who is doing lit.
thanks.
give your DD your full blessing in whatever subjects she like best and NOT on GPA score. My DD and many of her friends, some been offered 2to3 or more RA subjects, but due to commitments in CCA, they are in the process of considering to drop or take fewer RA!. Just food for thoughts, as parents, we must support their decisions. I always tell my DD, mummy is not taking the exam, you are the one taking the exam, so you decide. We will give you our full blessing... :grphug: -

Yes, very true. As parents, we have to support our children's decision. Luckily my DD is quite independant and so far whatever she does is her choice. she only discusses with me what she is upto and i give her my opinion. but the final choice is hers

Hello!
There usually aren't any overseas trip for CIP until year 3, unless a CCA self-organizes one I think. In year 3 there's a Overseas Service Learning trip (this year it's to Philippines) and there's only about 25 from the cohort.
There are activities to get CIP hours in lower sec though! For example you can sign up to help with street sales or sign up for competitions (like math competitions). In year 2 there will be more chances, like class-initiated local service learning, which everyone has to take part in. There is also the option of CmPS in year 2, which your daughter will have to apply for at the end of year 1. CmPS is community problem solving and is based locally. The frequency of CmPS depends on the group, but there are compulsory meetups during RS block every Wednesday.
Hope this helps! -
If taking triple science in Y3 and Y4, is it true at Y5, they ask us to drop one science?
NUS requirement for medicine is Chemistry and Biology /Physics. If this is the case, what is the main reason students taking triple science? -

In JC, out of 4 subjects, one must be a contrasting subject (i.e. Humanities subject). Science-inclined students should take Math. That leaves 2 remaining spots to be filled with Science subjects, so yes, you must drop one. Though technically if you take KI you fulfill your contrasting subject requirement, so I suppose you could take triple science + math.If taking triple science in Y3 and Y4, is it true at Y5, they ask us to drop one science?

Why shouldn't they? They would have to take 4 subjects regardless, and some just like science better than humanities, and do better at science too. Same reason as why someone would choose lit, or any other subject.
(Another person who scored 20 marks higher for Geog but chose Lit instead. Got rec-ed for Geog RA and loved Human Geog and all, but Physical Geog is just really torturous for me - but I love all of Lit and all the class discussions, and also the fact that you don't need to study for Lit papers, so chose Lit)

I understand that's it's only the end of T1, but can seniors (or parents) advise on the likelihood of getting a transfer into RGS, if I'm currently a DSA-Sec (academic) student in another specialized school? I've tried appealing to the MOE, only to have my request turned down. Thank you, and have a great school term ahead!

I guess it will be quite tough. Maybe you can just called RGS Year 1 Admission-in-Charge. Gd Luck.
