i am really shocked to hear this. in all the yrs my girls are in st nicks, they hv never encountered unpleasant situation with other girls. i find the girls are generally v well behaved, of course there'll be some difficult ones, but i suppose it's not only limited to st nicks. is this a recent incident? as for the stress, so far it's been pretty manageable.
When my SIL told me, I couldn't believe it too.nansk:
The girls wrote answers on their palms and threatened the others to do the same...when caught, all will get punished. Girls strike fear in the timid ones.
Wow! If I were looking to enroll my dd in this school, this sort of info would give me pause. :yikes:
My daughter is also studying in IJ though not St Nic. -
Hi,
Not sure if it’s appropriate to post this question here.
I intend to put my elder gal in a CHIJ sch. My younger one is a boy. Their age gap is 3 yrs. Have any parents here send kids to different primary school? Is it too much of a hassle? -
Many of us have boys and girls but we still like to send our kids to single-sex mission schools. Usually it stems from our own experience in such schools. I don’t find it a chore coz this is what I prefer.
To lessen the problem, you could get mission schools that are nearby each other or get a mixed mission school like Holy Innocents. But if you use school buses, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. -
St Nic has the best facilities and they train the girls to be an all-rounder. Of course good things doesnt come cheap.

Hi mummies, i’m staying in sengkang and considering whether to enrol my girl in OLN since all SC got in without balloting last year (we shld b more than 2km away).
We are not catholics and both hubby and me have nv studied in a single sex sch before. Can any mummies share with me on what r the pros and cons of a single sex sch? And what do they teach for the religion portion? Appreciate any advice thanks!! -
My dd is in CHIJ (Kellock). She participates in the Catholic prayer and hymns one day of the week during assembly. Apparently on other days of the week, they are encouraged to say their own prayers. She does not attend the catechism class; they have some other lessons during that time. So religion is not forced upon the non-religious students.
I also attended a Catholic girls’ school in my time, and what I experienced was a gentle exposure to Catholic beliefs, prayers and hymns, all of which I enjoyed and which broadened my perspective towards other religions/cultures.
As regards single sex schools, my dh and I both attended single sex schools and I feel it is the better this way. My dd used to attend a co-ed arts class and one day, I sat in to observe the class. I found that the 3 boys in the class were very restless, noisy, speaking up and demanding the teacher’s attention all the time. By contrast, the 3 girls (incl. my dd) were compliant - sitting still and quietly copying the picture from the board - and consequently, were more-or-less ignored by the teacher. That experience, coupled with the fact that my dh and I turned out okay (well-adjusted, not in any way disadvantaged) by our education in single sex schools, sealed my decision to enroll our dd in a girls’ school. -

Both in different primary schools...Hassle is transport. Other than that, we do not have problems with parent-teacher meetings...held at different times of the year. Kids are 4 years age difference...so when daughter went to P1 (CHIJ Toa Payoh), son was in P5. Both morning session.
I am fed up with afternoon session as morning was so rushed for time and evenings were tired after school to get anything done. Had the experience when son was in P1/2. -

Thanks for sharing! Showed DH your sharing and now We prefer our dd to go to a girl's sch too. The only thing that we are worried abt is the distance..we are worried That she may be tired travelling to and fro on the sch bus..My dd is in CHIJ (Kellock). Children are very adaptable. So dont have to worry so much. In fact there is an article in papers today which reported that some Malaysians take 2 hour journey one way to attend classes in singapore ever day. More importantly , I felt,is whether you believe in the school’s philosophy and your child likes the culture.

OLN is the nearest CHIJ to Sengkang. Many of OLN's girls come from Hougang, Sengkang, Punggol, Yio Chu Kang etc. The affiliated secondary school is CHIJ St Joseph's Convent.
If you are living nearer to Buangkok and prefer to travel down Yio Chu Kang road into Serangoon Gardens, then check out CHIJ - Our Lady of Good Counsel. It's at Burghley Drive within the Serangoon Gardens estate. It's also affiliated to St Joseph's Convent.
