How to make kids eat faster?
-
ooptimizer
my gal also takes 2 hours to finish her dinner. Can I just check with you, how your son manage to cope during recess? The time is pretty short, think its only 30mins? I m worried how my gal will cope next year when she’s in P1. -
Try using this method? Tell a story, make up any story and change the storyline along the way. For you to continue telling the story, the kid has to eat another mouth full. Worked well with my #4 and#5.
Another one. For the meal, have another of their favourite drink (milo?) or food (candies?), for every mouthful, give either a sip of drink or a pitch (size of a pi sai) of the candy. Works also leh…
Still doesn’t work? Administer Lysine or Cod liver oil. Also works everytime for me. -
Lysine didn't work for us. I'm giving him acidophillus (dunno spelling) for better absorption from what he already eats.
Basically, I don't fight. I just request that he tries to finish his milk (people say don't give milk with meals cos it makes them full, but in my experience, something is better than nothing ). Then I hope that over the course of the day or week, his average food intake is ok.
Everybody will grow up one lah. Besides, I'm saving my energy for other battles ... -
Just for laughs
Poor kid may get indigestion...

i think the best will be try to observe what your child likes the most . Kids will usually gobble up their favourite food
And giving encouragement will help alot ! -
Can try combining 'eat & play' time.. .. My boy will not only eat faster, but more too.. in order to get playing asap..

When my ds1 was much younger like 3-4 yrs old, we allocate 20-25 min time limit for him to eat. When the time is up anything leftover he don’t get to continue eating even if he has to go hungry for the rest of the day/ night until his next meal time. As times goes by, he managed to pick up this idea? However, when he got older like now 6 yrs old he gets distracted very easily so asking him to speed up become harder. That was then we came up with some time table, the longer time he takes to eat the lesser time he has for his other activities eg, tv time/ play time. His sleeping time is set at 9.30 pm daily so if he wants to drag his dinner time from 7pm to 9.30pm he can jolly well go to bed straight away after his dinner. Funny enough, i don’t have this problem with his younger brother. His 1.5 yrs old bro is always eager to sit at the table to start dinner with us and even if i let him roam around freely he will quickly come back for the next mouth once he has finished eating. So different!

is it Acidopholous? or can you tell me more abt this? -
Acidophillus is the good bacteria in the gut.
Promotes better digestion and immunity
But i wonder how will it help child eat faster
- Its the child's interest in food.. -
I agree... my boy if he loves something he will eat it fast enough... !!
Then, for food he doesn't like, we give him \"competition\"... between mummy, daddy and even our dog (sorry, we gave up trying to make him another sibling so he's the only child): the first who finish certain food first will get to pick our next outing (our dog's default pick will be the nearby dog run, which bores my son to death)! My hubby and I sometimes will let him win... but our dog will never let him win, so he really has to gobble up that carrot or fish ball that he hates!
