I am unlike you to be still able to be a supportive mum :clubmyself: . I told him I am upset with his laid back attitude.I totally understand what you mean... totally understand...

Because we have one like that as well.. Killing us softly inside..

It is really difficult to manage myself. Should I just let him be? He is not stupid. If he ends up with a low PSLE score, he can go to a sec school which he can become a really BIG fish. Should I just shut up and wait for the day he grows up? Do I need to stress both of us? What about my own KPO towards my BOSS? Can my BOSS accept my decision? -

I completely understand what you are going through.
It's frustrating...very frustrating to see a child being able to stretch himself but yet not willing to. But I know I cannot shut up...bcos my BOSS will not accept it if I leave him on his own. -

I just posted a pic of what I suspected to be the flower buds of the tomato plant I am growing. Seeing the flower buds set me thinking: everyday I water and remove the pests manually by inspecting each plant to the best of my ability (and also eyesight
), now one of the plants seems to be producing flowers, should I also exercise the same amount of patience with my boy? This gardening process is not supposed to yield produce for the family = why should I be so hang up with what my BOSS expects to see?
This is my boy's own destiny. Shouldn't I just let nature takes its course? -
Hi Jennifer,
It's very true...it's the child's own destiny and we parents shouldn't let those 4 letters determine it...but can we as a mother sit by and see the child not putting in effort to at least try to stretch himself/herself ? Worst thing is we know our kids are not stupid :frustrated: ...all the more we cannot sit by and see the plant/child grow without us watering it.
We should not be determined by the child's results...easier said than done. Yes, he/she will eventually get to a secondary school. It's just that when the whole PSLE is over, we do not want to live with regret that we left it to the child to decide his destiny. This is the first major exam...I know my son is not mature enough to want to study hard by himself. Maybe for O levels, he will hopefully :xedfingers: be mature...until then, I still have to have some control. -

I agree.
I am thinking along these lines: I started gardening to be a form of relaxation, if I would to turn it into an obsession, then I should not hv begun.
Proper care is still required, but I should not focus on seeing results.
I really thank this forum and this thread. By putting down my feelings and thoughts, I now know what I should do and what I should not do. -

the unfortunate part is once we do something, we want to see it done properly. i would not say it is an obsession.janet_lee88:

if you see weeds growing or leaves dry, can you ignore ? -

I understand what you are saying. To me, it's a fine line between doing a good job and becoming obsessed with it.the unfortunate part is once we do something, we want to see it done properly. i would not say it is an obsession.

I believe I am a perfectionist. I used to re-do my school art work until I was satisfied. But I cant do that to a plant or my boy since they hv a mind of their own. In short, I surrender

my kids have a mind of their own...unfortunately their little minds are not mature enough to see further. my son tells me, 'yes' each time i ask if he understands what i say...bcos he thinks that is what I want to hear.

Be patient. What we do know will impact our children's lives for their next 60 - 70 years. Don't give up. Our children need our guidance. We brought them to this world, so it is our responsibility to make sure we guide them in this world until they have the maturity to think on their own.
