For Maths papers, it may be because the kids are unable to detect the correct heuristics methods to use. I would like to recommend the book challenging problems made easy. I used it for many of my students. Works wonders. Do try to find it in popular.

TheAnswer,
Agree that my boy is weak to identify which heuristic to use. My husband said only practice can make perfect this skill. The thing now we lack is time for practice.
Motherhen,
My boy did better than our expectation for hcl. We only expect a pass but this potato boy came out highest for that paper. Why like that? We admit to spending a disproportion time on chinese at the expense of other subjects, thinking that his stronger ones can hold a bit while we focus on the weak ones. Turns out the strong one can’t hold if we neglect it. His time already maxed out. Unless he speeds up his work process and practice better time management skills, he won’t be able to squeeze in more practice for other subjects. -
Jedamum,
Yes, lack of time is always an issue. But looking at dd’s CL results, we’ll definitely have to devote more time to the subject. I’m getting stressed, it’s a short time away to SA1 and there’s even compo and oral to cover. These are gg to be Herculean tasks, as dd doesn’t seem to process in Chinese at all… -

:? What do you mean by number of questions reduced?
My son told the maths paper easy, number of qns reduced than the standard paper.30 mins for paper1. I don't understand some teachers set the paper harder while others set easy in the same school.Haven't see the papers, so cannot tell, english is harder or not.But teachers prepared the kids for facing a drop.My son is ok if he get a pass.

:? Also what do you mean by some teachers set the paper harder while others set easy in the same school? Aren't all the students having the same exam? Or are you saying the difference between P5 Standard Maths and P5 Foundation Maths? -
DD’s suffered a dip too but few front-runners are able to score near full marks in Maths and Science. Waiting for the papers to be returned to see the diffculty level.

Congrats Jedamum for son's stellar result in HCL

My son taking all the standard subjects.Maths teacher set the paper easier as she reduced the number of qns and the highest is 100(conclusion easy qns or all the kids prepared well for maths). The highest is 60+ (conclusion paper was hard or all the kids didn't prepare well)

Hahaha... I am not aware of number of qns in standard(meant PSLE format, the other day jedamum enquired all the school set the paper same or not,she asked the time) paper. My son told me total number of qns lesser than normally he practised at home.He never say how many qns he did.But he said 30 mins for paper1.normally its 50 mins. After I saw the paper I will tell you how many qns in paper1.

Wow! You are really keeping a closed watch on your kids, knowing such details despite being a FTWM and having to handle 3 kids! :udawoman: I only know that, everyday my dd's class ends at 1.50pm (need to set the table when she arrives home) with her recess at 10-10.30 and snack time at ard 12 (I have to prepare mah). She has EL, CL and maths everyday and science 2/3 times a week. The cohort has to stay back on Mon for more CL lessons if they take up HCL and Fri is CCA day for her.
looking back we were all talking about CA1 - preparation then the actual exam then the receiving of the results and we as parents managing our expectations
Yesterday was the last paper for DD1 - HMT and in the afternoon when she called me the first thing she said,\" Mummy, I am so tired and :snooze: sleepy; it seems like I have not had a good sleep this whole week!\" :hugs: Ooohhhh, Yes! revision takes up the big bulk of her time and not forgetting teachers still dish out homework daily
I re-look into DD1's class time-table this year:-
Monday - lesson ends 1.30pm
Tuesday - ends 2.30pm continues with House Practice till 4.30pm
Wednesday - 1.30pm
Thursday - 3.00pm
Friday - 1.30pm
No. of lessons allocated for the 4 core subjects each week (note: HMT is being built into the MT lessons):
English - 12 periods
Maths - 12 periods
Science - 5 periods (including 2 periods for Lab)
MT - 12 periods
The school has no supplementary classes for this term but FT has informed them it will start in Term 2
The schedule is not out yet so I am
:xedfingers: that DD1 will be able to manage her time and get enough sleep in the night.
So essentially she has to stay back 2 times a week, more if the cohort has enrichment classes such as IT or leadership training. We don't really like her staying back cos school tends to give them a lot of hw too. Besides, she loves to come home & chill out :boogie: :boogie: :boogie:
I have basically hands-off this year cos I want her to be more independent and be responsible for her own life (besides having my no 2 entering pr sch, so I need to watch that boy!). I provided the assessment books & past year pprs, dumped the whole lot on her and printed her the test schedule (upon her request) and let her set her own pace. After she did any pprs, I marked & went through them with her. However I know she didn't complete all the past school pprs, esp CL & HCL, cos she has been having MOUNTAINS of work from her CL teacher since term started  . We went through the maths problems in KSP tog too (which we find to be VERY USEFUL!).
Actually I was kinda worried for I see her like very relac throughout the whole period, reading like mad, watching all 183 episodes of Phineas & Ferb (rewatching some a few times), listening to music & playing with her bro. Somehow, she managed to maintain her results, with a slight dip in CL, so I'm very glad for her. Her HCL turns out better than her CL too, considering she's also one of those potato kids in her class (she told me her CL teacher finds her accent & 会话 is so strange that she doesn't really like to call her to answer qns   ). But this strange phenomenon is consistent, cos she has been doing better in HCL compared to CL for all their 考察s.
Saw her EL & CL pprs, think they are manageable, CL being a bit harder. Now waiting for maths & science pprs. I understand her math ppr is also a simplified ppr, ie reduced no of qns with psle format & timing.
Well, CA is over. Looking forward to the Mar hols. She's so looking forward to being able to sleep late everyday! :rotflmao: -

As for DD's school, paper was set according to PSLE format: Paper 1 (MCQ & short qns) no calculator and Paper 2 (Short & long qns) calculator allowed.

it seems like everyone is playing a catching up game.... the sch knowing the standard of PSLE and set their CA/SA paper to higher standard hoping the students can find it easier when doing the PSLE later on.... the tuition centre is doing the same (ie set even higher and tougher questions) for their students hoping they will find it easier when doing their CA/SA in sch..... :slapshead: :stupid:
