Sorry to digress but are there still part time teaching positions in the polys? I went to their website but nothing was mentioned

I've taught part time in republic poly and ngee Ann poly. Republic poly was via their Internet application. Their part timers are called academic associates.
For ngee Ann, it was intro by a friend who was a lecturer there. Fr what I know NP only takes adjunct lecturers via internal intro. I know SP can still apply via Internet where they will keep your resume on standby and call you when they need you.

What qualification they are looking for? What working experience to work in the poly?

Not sure put too many part time jobs could help to get a perm job when return to work force?

Well it was a good option for me as I could work just a few hours a week and be a SAHM for most of the rest of the week. At least I can have my own pocket money and not get money fr DH. And at the same time take care of DD. it’s definitely better to have part time on the resume than completely no work at all. Employers are generally concerned that SAHP are detached fr the working world, so working part time sort of alleviate the concern.

Qualifications depends on the field. Min good hons deg with many years of relevant hands on experience if its a very hands on course. For the more academic courses, min masters deg

Just to clarify that part time positions in poly are considered temp, so they can stop your services the next term if they have enuf full time staff. But it depends on the field and experience u have. If you have stg that the other full time staff can’t offer then of cos they will continue your service. But there’s no job security, but still better no job at all as they pay us very good and hours are very short

So it’s good for a SAHP

My bro is not well educated and he is struggling to cope with his own family.

            This remark piqued my curiosity.

This is not the first time I have seen this factor being cited in relation to caring for one's parents. {I'm not suggesting in any sense that Dora1 does not take care of her parents} I have seen quite a bit of TV programmes or interviews that the aggrieved parent(s) would rather rely on public assistance schemes/charity/manual jobs than to burden their children with their problems.

I'm puzzled. Personally, I do not see myself as being particularly filial BUT cutting my retired parents' allowance is the farthest thing in my mind. I would rather sell my car, downgrade my flat, cut my kids' pocket money, etc than touch my aged parents' allowance. Don't other folks feel the same way? :scratchhead:

You are not alone. I'm also not the super filial kind. However, I do not cut my parents' or grandparents' allowance. If I have to tighten purse strings, I will cut down on my spending and DH's spending.

Well in my case, I was giving my dad quite a generous allowance previously when I was working, so there's no way I could continue with that amt if I dun work. And at that time we were within MOP of the flat so cannot downgrade. PIL both have long term medical problems. And DD had medical issues after she was born. So our expenses are extremely high. My dad on the other hand was a retired professional so he does have some annuity to pay for his day to day expenses.
That's why we decided to stop at 1 and for me to go back to work, partly because of financial considerations, among other reasons. I know I need to go back to work so that I can start giving my dad his allowance. And also to have the spare cash ready the day my dad should fall sick.
I think it's very unfair to criticise the children of the poor folks that you see in tv that require gov assistance. You never know what other expenses they have. My girl had serious multiple food allergy and eczema. We tried so many moisturisers and nothing worked, she was bleeding. The only moisturisers that worked for her cost $20 and only last a week. Her special shower oil cost $20 for 200ml. So we were paying $100+ on moisturisers and shower oil alone per month. Not to mention all the special food that she needs to eat and the medical bills. My dad understood our financial burden that's why he also refused the token allowance that I give him.
And there are a lot of other expenses involved.
Of cos there are unfillial children who dun support their parents even if Thry can afford.
I hope you can also understand that there are lower income families who are feeding a family of 4 with $1200, how to have enough means to support the parents? I'm sure they are already so lean that there is nothing to downgrade.bif they can give the parent $50 or $100 considered very good already.
I'm sure a lot of the elderly that you see on tv have the same mentality as my dad. They know their children are already having a hard time so they want to be indrpendent. Of cos there are those that are really abandoned by their kids

About time this topic is discussed . . yes :goodpost:

I wud luv to be SAHD. I have worked out the whole itinerary for it:

Wake up have my breakfast together with family. Then send kids to school and drop wife to work (since she's a high flyer, she goes to work at 9.30am).

Then, go for a 9-hole golf game with buddies. Then pick the kids up and have lunch at the club. Maid feed them lunch, and I continue with my buddies. Then go for a quick swim with the kids and showers taken care of. Send them home for afternoon nap, and I doze off too (of course, after 2 hours under the sun).

how i wish my itineries are like he above. btw I am a SAHD with 2 school-going kids. however, the reality is like blow:
5.40am - wake up, wash cups & boil water & prepare breakfast for DD
6.05am - wake DD up, while I go & fold laundries (those put in dryer night before)
6.35am - me go wash up and dress
6.50am - send DD to school
7.05am - reach home, have breakfast with wife
7.35am - wife leaves home, tidy up. ironing kids uniforms for tomorrow
8.20am - wake DS up, and tidy up bedroom & prepare his breakfast
                  8.30am - vacuum house
9.00am - DS finish bf, me do worktime with him
10.00am - finish worktime, Ds goes poopoo, got spare time go feed goldfisf or tend to my plants.
10.30am - bath for DS, and at same time scrup toilet. I give direction to him to point where to splash water, very convenient
10.50am - DS dress up and ready to leave house. Drive to nearby mall for lunch.
                  11.00am - lunch with DS
11.45am - send DS to school
                  12.00pm - marketing
12.20pm - back home, faster mop floor
1.15pm - go fetch DD from school
1.30pm - get or bring DD for lunch
2.00pm - back home, DD bath and do homework, if need my help i have to teach but nowaday seldom. The only time i can either catch a nap, catch up on news on internet or monitor share market. bi-weekly have to change bedsheets and curtains during this timing.
5.00pm - cook rice and prepare fish for steaming (we cater food). So fish is add-on
5.40pm - go fetch boy, why so early because kiasu if not early cannot chope nice parking in front of school
6.50pm - reach home and have dinner
                  7.20pm - finish dinner and wash-plates

Normally wife will teach kids in evening, if she busy I will have to OT also teach until 9.30pm before they go to sleep. Still got many other things never put in. sigh, so who say got time for golf? :?

                  8.

Wake up, send the kids to enrichment classes and I'll meet up with some brothers for coffee. Maybe go to car show rooms, or happy hours :celebrate:

Pick them up from enrichment classes, and pick wifey up as well (since she's a highflyer, she leaves work maybe 5pm). Go for a stroll at the parks, have dinner, and packed them home, ready for bed! They sleep by 9pm, and the rest is history :celebrate:

                  Sounds alright . . . . or am I getting flame
                  :siam:

For me, I used to do some temp jobs last time, when interview, the interviewer will ask why keep changing jobs. Some will try to lower salary to almost same as the temp jobs, calculate to per month, let say earn $7 per hour, they might take $7 per hour X 30days or what... 🤷

I think temp and part time is not entirely the same. Also depends on how you present your working history. I'll say that I'm a SAHM working part time occasionally to keep in touch with the working world, focus is on kid. Now kid old enuf to go cc so I'm looking for full time work. If you say you were temping, then it gives the impression that you were looking for a full time job, but can't find.
And I think the fact that poly pays the part time lecturer very well also up the bargaining power when I returned to work ($70/h).

I am interested to be a part-time lecturer (ie work 5 half days). What are the polys/tertiary institutions looking for when hiring such part-timers? What workload would you have (pre-class prep?) and what is the expectations for part-timers?
