        Hi Karpat and others,

You may use my son as referral:
        Joel Ng Chu Yao
        ID: SG005
        CMA Kovan

Referral/referee not necessary to be from the same branch.

        Tks & Rgds,
        JSC

My boy attended CMA classes for a year plus (twice weekly lesson) and I’ve stopped it about 6months ago. While he was attending the classes, he was able to add/sub very fast mentally. But recently, I noticed that he’s not able to add/sub as quickly anymore, especially when the formula comes into place (friends/buddies). He can’t remember the step what to do (e.g. 8 + 5, cannot plus 5 on the abacus, use friends +10 -5). Is this usual when they stop the classes?

Toffeev, I think abacus trainer had mentioned something about slowing down in speed after you stop attending the course due to lack of practice. May I know which grade your boy was doing before he stopped attending the course? I am concerned too... 😓

Hi Concern2, if I’m not wrong he was at Grade 9/10(abacus)/10/11(mental), can’t recall exact. I did make him practise the abacus on and off after he stopped. I actually don’t mind if the speed slows down. But he gets totally stuck, especially when the formulas are needed. I’ve recently started teaching him other methods of mental calculation like counting up/down,etc. So that he doesn’t get stuck when he does sums involving 9+1 or 4+1 (cuz these need formulas) Now I don’t know whether should I send him for a refresher abacus course or let it go totally (but feels kind of wasted both time/effort & money).

                Hi toffeev,

I think it’s worthwhile to send yr son for the refresher course, just pay for the once a week term, which cost $250 for 10 lessons or 2.5months. U don’t need to pay registeration, only fees n deposit. At Level 10/11 for mental, means he just joined advance class not too long ago, i don’t think he has mastered it enough. Let him continue for at least another 2 terms.

I always feel completing the foundation class is quite an achievement for the kids. Would be quite wasted if he did not master it n start forgetting what he learns.

Upon continuing the classes, he will be able to access the online practice worksheets. From there u can even get him to practice higher levels worksheets.

I’ve withdrawn my girl recently too. Stopped at level 8. Can tell her interest diminishing from her reluctance to do homework & numberous careless mistakes. Since she has progressed far enough so I guess no point in continuing the struggle. Hope I made the right decision to withdraw her
