This bird has been coming to our balcony to rest for 2 days.

Olive-backed Oriole

When we were still living in Cashew Heights, a baby oriole fell out of the nest on a tall tree and one of its legs was bent at the joint. We brought it home. On the way home, 2 adults oriole kept yakking above us. Must be the parents.

It was an experience keeping a bird. We did not know what to feed it. One of the security guards who keeps birds as a hobby told us to try feeding it with live worms.

So we went out to buy live worms from the pet shop, $2 per packet.

It was a struggle to feed the worms. The baby bird did not know how to eat on its own. We resorted to using disposable chopsticks to pick up the worms and shoved them into its mouth which auto opens.

Then we used a drinking straw to pick up some water and fed the bird.

It would stop opening its mouth when it did not want to eat anymore.

Good appetite it had. From $2 packet, it upgraded to $4 packet

Some weeks later, it became stronger and could leap onto the edge of the cupboard. But its injured leg meant it could not stand up for long.

In the end, we sent it to Jurong BirdPark veterinary.

The cute part is this bird is usually quiet. When we returned home, it would start yakking for attention = feeding/drinking
