please correct me if i’m wrong. does all children who are dyslexic also have difficulty in learning language?
does your daughter have difficulty in learning grammar and writing composition?

my daughter’s english tutor advised me not to send my daughter who are autistic (very mild) to sota.
her tutor does not think IB is suitable for her as she has to complete 6 years of rigorous academic program.
it will be to stressfull for her as she won’t be able to quit after 4 or 5 years of secondary school, unlike her peers who can go to poly after o level.

any input?

There are different seriousness of dyslexia, but most can overcome it given proper therapy. High functional dyslexic should be able to learn new languages at basic level. My daughter don’t have much problem with English.


I think the decision to enter SOTA very much depends on your child passion for the art form as well as the child’s own ability to handle the IB program. You should find out what IB program entails and ask your child whether he/she can cope with the program or not. Quitting at year 4 or 5 is unlikely to happen because if a child cannot cope or has lost interest in the art form, it will be detected much early, year 1 or 2. Then there is still time to transfer to mainstream schools and catch up with the ‘O’ level program.

I heard there a students that quit after 3 months, but very few of them. Mostly I think were unable to gain acceptance among their peers. Most SOTA students are uninhabited and spontaneous, so those quiet ones may find it difficult to fit that culture.

am i supposed to summit my online application form or mail them the details first (for theatre auditions)?But i cannot help feeling paranoid that i wont pass the exam and i am afraid that i am not very good at answering questions and i do not know what to do for the writing excersise does any parent have any advice? oh and i would like to ask what competitions do theatre students go to,do they travel overseas and after they graduate what schools can they opt for in the case of theatre? :scratchhead: :roll:

SOTA students for all art forms get to go overseas in Yr 3, 4, and 5. However, Yr 3 immersion program is under review and may be cancelled.

There are a handful of universities that offer theatre studies, even our very own NUS. However, it is not really a must to pursue your art form after graduation. With the IB diploma, you can also opt for other area of studies in both local and overseas universities.

My dd is in P5 this year and she has been nominated to attend the Junior Academy under Dance.Does anyone have any useful info to share on this as I could only gather very minimal info on the SOTA website and fr dd school itself.TIA

I am also going to the junior academy but under theatre i am trying to gather as much information as possible.I heard that the junior academy is though as some students walked out crying saying they were given too much stress my friend says that the teachers there will give you challenges like suddenly just ask you to dance something

Being Arts-inclined, many SOTA students are weak in Math, since primary school. I was told that many of them scored B for Math in PSLE.

SOTA program is IB and students therefore do not need to take O-Level. Many SOTA students therefor do not really know how bad their Math is. Personally I think that their Math is really bad. I am encouraging all my students to sit for O-level as private candidate so as to benchmark their standard against the Express students.

omigosh puh lease! you are being quite stereotypical. arts students are not bad in their academics! if sota students are there, then they are aware they need help or they wld not need to go to for tuition am i not correct? Our curriculum ends at 5.15. The teachers give us less hw and everything they are very understanding however, you must admit that if your child's curriculum ends at 5.15 almost everyday but friday for some years, wld you as a parent want to place extra stress on your child by giving him or her additional academic tuition? I know the answer. NO. I have friends who're scoring as much as 44/45 in my math class. i'll have you know that arts students, or sota students, DO NOT HAVE BAD MINDS. We choose to go to sota because we respect the arts; we want to develop our passion. So mind you, don't go around insulting arts students like that because you might just end up ending embarrassing yourself in front of others. And i wld just like to express what i feel strongly about, sorry if you are offended.
P.S A lot of my friends scored A* for math and i myself have scored an A.
