I was going to tell you you can buy from fishpond.com too - free worldwide shipping. Also from book depository uk. free shipping.[/quote]Does this book cover up to grade 8 theory? Is it sufficient for self study purpose?
I am using Sandy Feldstein's Practical Theory with my older beginners. It is a so far the best option for self-studying student.Dreamaurora:

We are overseas now, but I'll look for the books when we are back in Singapore. Which websites would you recommend? I've taught my daughter a little but because I'm not very good myself, it's rather dry and not very satisfactory. She would like to try to learn up to grade 5, I guess.
Can buy from here

My dd1 took 17 hours of (group) lessons to prep for grade 5 theory. She has absolutely zero theory foundation because her cello teacher only teaches practical. So she can only read left hand notes.phankao:
Have - there are music schools who teach accelerated music theory to grade 5, and also just theory for up to grade 8. There are definitely more schools doing those accelerated courses up to grade 5 theory than beyond. Look around the various websites, eg. Medley Music School(SAFRA Toa Payoh), Music Workshop (Thomson), Verve Music School (AMK)...
Typically how long would these courses last? How many sessions/hours per week? What are the fees like? Do they have holiday crash courses? Any within easy reach of Queenstown? Asking for my 14yo daughter who plays guitar for fun but hasn't learned music formally. She would be interested to learn some formal theory.
I called up a few music schools near my area and pick the one with most suitable timing. It's actually individual 30 mins lesson each. I request teacher to coach both dd1 & dd2 together so combine their individual 30 mins lesson to become 1 hour group lesson.
dd2 has better foundation than dd1 since her piano teacher covers theory during piano lesson too, although not every week. Still, I think her piano teacher's coverage is far from exam readiness (can't expect too much from a rush 10 mins theory coverage) so I think having separate theory lessons helped as it's more focus that way.
The music schools charges varies so it's best to call up a few to enquire. fyi the most affordable quote I received is $70/mth for 45 minutes group lesson, max 4 in a group although they can start a class with min 2 students. Didn't choose that school eventually because timing not suitable. Highest quote is the music school charged same fees as grade 5 practical piano even though teaching theory. So those I didn't consider at all because market practice among music schools is theory lessons are priced lower than practical lessons. -
I've updated my site on http://www.gabrielyeong.com/2013/04/proper-sitting-posture-when-playing.html for proper sitting posture when your child is playing the piano.
This is to prevent backaches after playing for too long. -
