Octoberbaby,
For the editing section, did he practice on assessment books?
My boy is hit and miss on this section. It all boils down to reading regularly and knowing how the sentence flow. And also must know how to write. -

Good morning Octoberbaby & Club 2002 :hi5: ,Now my ds feedback to me that for HCL, he doesnot know how to do the editing section (the one they purposely give the wrong chinese character with the same sound). Is this common?
For HCL class, some kids already being recommended by the teacher to join lower chinese class today. My ds's class, 2 kids had been asked to drop out HCL.
SA1 is coming complete with oral, listening, compo.
Gather from the HCL teacher's comment, it is not easy to even hit 26/40 in HCL compo writing
worry for my potato dd :nailbite:

hmmm... was wondering how to react to this...
The other day, I walked to TLL and asked them the cost of lessons there. Its about $80 per lesson for English. Then I walked home and asked dd if she wanted to join her friends there for tuition. Nope, even if they do allow their students to borrow storybooks from their well stocked library, she said. So I told I would send her for tuition if she did badly for the mid-year exams.
so you walked home from TLL? the one in United Square? you also walk your dd to school?
anyway, before I get :torchme: :torchme: , let me clarify that my dd1 has been with them since p2 (after a disastrous p1). They have been quite effective in maintaining her grades after an initial lacklustre year. Heck, my dh believes in them so much that I have to signed up my ds2 this year when he goes into p1
that being said, my dd is always trying to make me let her quit tll cos she really wanna be tuition-free! however, our take is that the foundation in el must be very very strong because 3 of the core subjects are taught in el. Not only that, even in maths & science, it is very important to be able understand the nuances of the questions and present your answers so that they are relevant to the questions. All these depends very much on how strong your language is. After some training, the kids will not assume that each question is asking for the same part of the answer as the last similiar one they did. They will have to read the whole question through with patience and understanding, and the questions nowadays are so so looooong.... zzzzzzzzz....
i really pity the kids nowadays... -

7 weeks to SA1.... i can foresee a drastic drop in dd's SA1 results is unavoidable..... now is all depend on how i manage my expectation and emotion.....

Well said! :rahrah: :rahrah: :rahrah:memouse:
his grades for english and mother tongue dropped quite a lot by about 10-15 marks. Is this normal? Me getting worried and trying to help him do better for SA1.
Hi Club 2002 :celebrate: ,
I suppose it is reasonable given that the papers are set according to PSLE format. DD's EL HOD told the class that a score of 85 and above is consider a feat and only a handful would manage it
, so go ahead and give your DC lots of :hugs: :snuggles: when they are there or not too far off, time to :nunchuk: :nunchuk: if not there yet. -

can he θζ»δΉ¦ ζ»θδΉ¦ or not? tht's my advice to my dd n so far, it seems to work for her...Now my ds feedback to me that for HCL, he does not know how to do the editing section (the one they purposely give the wrong chinese character with the same sound). Is this common?
however, when it comes to orals & compo... 沑ηΌη :rotflmao: -

my dd memorises the words and their ει³οΌεεοΌεδΉ & εδΉε in the given θ―θ― list. so far, the tested words are from these groups (unlike EL, which can test anything under the sun  )Octoberbaby,

look at class mean score to have a clearer picture as difficulty of paper may vary.[/quote]I wish dd's school will give us the class or level statistics but unfortunately, they don't .lego:

Yes, SA1 - complete with zuowen and oral
.
I wonder how much of a drop in results is considered \"normal\" and expected for P5. Anyone knows?
So, have to go and ask around to see how her friends fared.

That was fast, so the kids were judged based on one term's results.

For dd's school, they are given a year to try out and the school will make the decision for them at end of this year, based on their results.
