Nebbermind, do u think gep program has successfully developed the creativity?

I really can't tell if my boy would have been different if he has not gone thru it.

Even If your DD/DS is average or above average in P1-P3 ( w/o tuition/enrichment) , he/she can still be a potential GEP.

I think GE testing is not about what the kids already know or understand BUT testing of what the kids can extrapolate with greater speed and logic. So GE testing is not about the norm. GE testing is not about some domain knowledge like NSW. See the difference.

Basically, GEP is a programme for the intellectually gifted and not the academically gifted. Correct me if I'm wrong.. I heard the GE Branch does not mark the entire Math/Eng papers. It is an IQ exam (round 2), actually.

Those kids that are naturally gifted should be identified and given the opportunity to choose to go to an advanced course, such as GEP if that is the best course for them. A naturally gifted child tends to think that the normal curriculum is boring for him/her and that makes him/her unhappy. It’s not the full marks that they score easily that they are interested in, it’s that they simply love challenges!

GE isn’t really about results. Just escaped last year, and I can tell you that it isn’t about getting 4a*a and 280 aggregate. They focus a lot on social studies and analysis, and I think they are trying to generate the next batch of thinkers, especially politicians

I support the GEP, simply because there are some kids who really are gifted.
They need to be stimulated in a different way to acheive their full potential.

My elder, when in P3, past round 1 (without any special training) but not round 2.
He has ADHD and concentrating for long is a difficult thing to him, attention span only like 20mins. In long test/exams he tend to make tonnes of mistake as his rushes through.

His Maths knowledge is at least 3years ahead of his school level, so he find school Maths lessons boring and tends to cause disturbance in his class when younger.

I have always wish there's some kind of programme that will help nurture his potential, too bad he wasn't able to get into GEP. Now he is taking his PSLE and I could only hope he get into a school with the right programme and good teacher to help him shine.

I won't give my opinion on whether GEP should or shouldn't be implemented, but after reading a couple of posts many parents seem to think that being in GEP is very stressful for the students.

I'm a GE student and I don't think that it's actually very stressful. The teachers don't put too much pressure on you, and when it comes to stress it's usually the parents who end up stressing the kids out with tuition and whatnot. The workload isn't very heavy either; most students are coping fine.
Well, it's just what I've made of my time in GEP until now. Although there is a significantly larger workload now that PSLE's 'right around the corner', I think that's to be expected. Not intending to insult anyone or start any arguments~ :salute:

Of course GEP is stressful ... stressful for the parents who find all means to ensure his/her kid can get into GEP programme.

Sometimes i wonder who is more stress in the education system, the parent or the kid !
