      Hi Octoberbaby,

I want to thank you for your wonderful response. :rahrah:
You're the only parent in this tread who talks sense. The others just wanted to shoot me down and didn't address my main question of CCA..

I didn't say die die my kids must go to RI becos there are so many other good schools in spore. Of course I know all the rhetorics about respecting my children's choices etc. I'm just simply asking what RI specialises in.
So I thank you for answering my question and am deeply grateful about the info on focusing on Math. šŸ˜„

How do you work hard on helping your boy excel in Math?
      Need advice.

      Thanks!
      :please:

      Hi,

I'm a super kiasu parent: I have three young boys who are not even in pri sch but I have set my sights on RI for them.

I would like to know: What are the niche CCAs in RI? I would like my boys to take up the sport/club that RI emphasizes on so that they will have a higher chance of admission thru DSA.

      Super kiasu, rite?
      šŸ˜‰

Not only you lah. I also super kiasu and wanted my boy to enter in 2015 admission. But one forumer asked me why must be RI? There are other schs. I am working hard on mathematics. Now taking all sort of math competition.

        Hi Shamum,

Thank you too for your supportive answer. I'm so glad to hear about your son's experience. I wish him all the best for his sec sch life. :imcool:

Precisely becos I know about DSA all these years that I asked about RI's niches. I also don't want to end up gasping that it's too late to train a child in his interest area (emphasize \"child's interest area\"). Like what you have heard correctly, some parents like me, would like to guide their children early in a sport, arts, etc early so that they will not be disadvantaged (true to the spirit of kiasuism). Of course my kids have to love the sport etc. O/w it'll be a chore for both them and me if they're not interested. Of course I know this fact.... I not stupid too. :boogie:
RI's website doesn't inform the public about their niches leh. Perhaps it's so as not to offend other CCAs bah..... šŸ˜“

If I wanted to know about other schools, I won't post on this tread. Like I mentioned earlier, I didn't say die die my kids MUST go to RI. My qn is: What are RI's niche CCAs? :?:

        Hi Darlingbabe,

I am not sure how you come out with this idea. If you want to know more on dsa for CCA/ club. You can check from respective school website. You will need to consider whether your kids like & able to do... and also.... will it be the same system when your kids reach P6?.....

when my son at the end of P5, I have been told by some parents that kids need to start train before P1 to get top 3 position when kid reach P6 to go for dsa, etc .... I am like ah :yikes: already too late 🤷 .. but I tell myself that I am lucky to hear it late šŸ˜‰ ... if it early, I may find something to do ... my son is my first child & clueless ... I dont really know what was dsa untill my son at end of P5 :nailbite: ... all along ... I let my son do what he likes and he had been changing from one sport to another for some reason... mid of P5, he found the sport that he love and he enjoy playing it. I think it make the different. He chose training over computer game, which gave me suprised. Come dsa in P6, he got confirm offer from 3 school that he applied.

What I tried to say is that please guide them along the way and help your kids find the thing that they love to do and it will turn out fine. šŸ™‚ This is just my two cents worth of advise and hope useful.

Hi darlingbabe, you can start with table-tennis or badminton or swimming for your kids since he is still young see if anyone become his cup of tea later. These are the dsa sports in many schools.

                  Appreciate your kindness.

If we fall into category 4, how is the assessment of golf going to be organised?

The teacher will be playing golf with the applicants? This is exciting to have the teacher in charge plays together in a flight.

My son just told me he will join the scout badge exploration tomorrow until Sunday. I feel very strange why there is no official notice to parents for such activity because I believe there are certain risks need both these young bodys and us - parents to consider. I refused his request. I think we should be informed officially for such out door overnight activity in advance since these boys are immaturity. Am I right?
