$3k+ For Oversea School Trips?
-
School immersion to Australia cost >$1.2K after subsidy.
I don’t think it’s necessary. Only 2 days of attending lessons with local kids. Then the rest are sightseeing & attending workshops. 1st and last day check in check out plus to/fro 7 to 8 hours of flight time. Not much point le -
I recall a case ( a few years ago) of one poly student attended an immersion programme in China and was killed. Thus if I can afford, I will also consider if it is safe and if my kid is ready. My dd is abit ‘blur blur’ type so I am not in favor for her to go oversea trip. My ds is slightly more ‘steady’’ and alert so I am more ok to let him go for such programme. And also depend which country they are going.

My nephew was selected to go to new York last nov. The 12 days immersion trip for organized for the top 10% students in the science classes. He went and my bro was $3000 + poorer. No regrets for the son and parents though. They find the programme very enriching. This is not the first overseas immersion trip my nephew had made. Two years back, he went on a 9 days china trip.
I have to say my bro’s family belonged to the high income group so $3000 per kid is nothing much. But I am someone who is always concern about the kid’s from lower income families and I did ask about the financial schemes available. According to my bro, the school (again) offer further subsidy and installment schemes for those who need. He said those students from families under certain assistance scheme virtually pay nothing, just a couple of hundreds for some admin charges. -

I can think of only one good reason for such a trip to understand the culture and history of Germany, and that involves learning German as a 2nd/3rd language.Tks for the replies.
DS is in sec 3. Its a 10 days trip.
He cannot use edusave anymore cos can only use once for sch oversea trip and he used it last year for Bali.
I think the trip is for them to understand the cultures and history of europe.
I wonder how many parents can affort or be willing to spend for such trips.
Do you think this is important in regards to his education? -
