At a concert, the ratio of the number of women to the number of men is 3:1. The ratio of the number of women to the number of children is 1:4. What is the ratio of the adults to the number of children at the concert?

      Hi

You may use MD or work using units.

      Women: Men ----- 3:1

      Women: Children ----- 1:4 -------3:12

The ratio for women is repeated in both set of ratios, so make it the same.

      Adult: Children ----- 4:12 -------1:3

      Best wishes

      Thanks for your help.

Hi hi,sorry need help with drawing models for the questions. …

        1) THere were 20 more pears than plums at a fruit stall. AAFTER 1/5 of the pears and 3/10 of the plums were sold, there were 46 pears and plums left. HOW many plums were left over?

2)Reb and Jane have $800 altogether during a trip. 1/3 of Reb’s spending is $45 more than 1/4 of Jane’s spending. HOw much money did Stephanie spend during the trip?

        THANKS!

          Hi

          Hope this helps.

          Number of pears ----- 10 units + 20

Number of plums ----- 10 units

          Number of pears sold ----- 2 units + 4

Number of plums sold ----- 3 units

          Number of pears left ----- 8 units + 16

Number of plums left ----- 7 units

          15 units + 16 ------ 46

          15 units ------ 30

          1 unit ------ 2

          Number of plums left ----- 7 units ------ 14

          Best wishes

            Hi

            Please confirm.

            Is it Reb or Jane?

Whether we are looking for Reb’s spending or Jane’s spending, the logic is still the same.

You may work with MD or Units.

Draw 4 boxes to show Jane’s spending.

            Draw (1 box + 45) + (1 box + 45) + (1 box + 45) to show Reb’s spending.

            45*3 -----135

            800 – 135 ------- 665

            7 units ----- 665

            1 unit------ 95

            Please continue from here.

            Best wishes

                Hi

                Good Morning.

There are alternative ways to present the MD.I've shown two options.

Hope your girl will find it useful.

                Best wishes

A group of 24 children sold some tickets for a charity show. Each ticket was sold at $5. Each boy sold 5 tickets and each girl sold 3 tickets. The boys collected $40 more than the girls.

                  a) How many girls were there in the group?
                  b) How many tickets were sold altogether?

                  TIA

                    Assume 12B and 12G

So Boys sold 60 tickets ; girls sold 36 tickets
So boys get $300 ; girls get $180
Boys get 120 more ; we need to reduce this to 40 only ie need to reduce 80

If we reduce 1 boy ; we reduce five tickets ; which is reduce $25
But there will be one more girl ; ie 3 more tickets ; which is $15 more.
So the difference is reduce by $40

So we need to reduce 2 boys from our initial assumption.

                    Answer 10 boy 14 girls

                    Check
                    10B = 50 tickets = $250
                    14G = 42 tickets = $210
                    Correct, boys collected $40 more.
                    There are 14 girls.
                    Total tickets sold is 92

Just going to point out that you are assuming that they spent everything they brought. You might think this a moot point but I was confounded when I first read this question, ._.

                      Cheers.
