Open Houses usually have talks by the Principal and other key staff, tours of the premises, booths displaying CCAs and curriculum, performances by CCAs...

Talks by the P and other key staff are good for getting an overview of what the school is about, the direction the school is headed in, the character of the school...

The CCA and curriculum booths, which are usually manned by the students, gives you an opportunity to chat with the students (from the horses' mouth so to speak) and to find out if that CCAs and curriculum of that school is what your child wants out of his secondary school life.

While on a tour of the school, take in the general ambience. Is the school led by the teachers, staff and parent volunteers? Or is it led by the students? Which kind of environment would your child prefer to be in?

Go to a few Open Houses. Keep an open mind. They're definitely helpful in helping you and your child make a decision on the kind of sec school he wants to spend the next 4-6 years of his life in.
