I don't even know when SA1 is. ds1 is only in P3, never had a real test before. Maybe we are still in lala land. But I think consistent work is more important.

P2 still ok....P3 onwards will be stress..with additional science subject.

which school ur son is in? not many school has afternoon class nowadays

More subjects definitely more stressed. Next year onwards I do not think he can have his whole weekend free.

what is defined as 'serious work'?
how do you teach creative writing for both languages?
i used to give ds1 plenty of serious work in lower pri, as he had exams back then. because exams are abolished and no streaming in P1s, i have been quite lax with my P1 ds2. he usually does his tuition homework, or activity booklets (simple science, maze, doodle, crossword), drawing, play lego, reading most of the time. it is a challenge to keep him occupied over weekends despite he is having 3 classes on the 2 days. intend to add on swimming to exhaust his energy. because when he is too free, he will act up and demand my attention or ask for computer/handphone games. need to make trips twice a week to the library to pick out books to occupy him as he does not like too thick books and thin ones got read too fast (and he does not want to return some books yet as want to re-read so am always stuck with only allowing to borrow a few books despite already upgraded to premium membership - i cant wait for holidays to double the quota!).
hope all these free-time reading (he does not read thoroughly though..he only picks on those he likes) will accumulate into something - this is a new approach i adopt for ds2. ds1 used to have to do exam papers/assessment books weekly when he was in P1.

no streaming at end of P2??[/quote]have, but that didn't feel serious or high-stake at all . We certainly did not mug over anything content-wise. I only got him to do two sample papers for each topic so that he knows how how fast he has to write to complete in time.

my kids have no tuition at all. They are very very eng. They are not high scorers either but I just don't feel the urgency because conceptually they get things easily. It's mostly careless mistakes and poor Chinese which I feel take time to master. I rather they be busy with their own stuff for now as long as their homework is done. My bad.

No timetable. I ask them to list down their own action items ie. Materials & subjects they need to cover then they will strike out those that are done

I will review their list to make sure it includes everything. Let them get into habit of taking ownership

if i let my P5 do this, it will take him another half-1hr to come up with the list! and at the end of the day, nothing checked although done! :spank:

not daily. Only when there's upcoming exam or during school holiday
only need 3 to 5 mins to come up with the list

But P2 has no exam in SA1, right? My daughter’s SA is at the end of the year. Only mini tests etc throughout the year.

Sa1 is just next month...oral 2/3 may after labour day holiday.

Consistent work is important for p 1/2...but p3 onwards, I am starting her revision one month in advance...hopefully something will stay in her head. So I go back and forth to make sure she doesn't forget :xedfingers: when I move on to other topics.

Yes, I just check my dd’s SA1 schedule after reading this thread too.


She will start her oral and paper 1 in late Apr which means we have to start preparing from this week!!!
