Incidents like these remind us about the imperfectness of the system, which is why we must neither lose heart nor belief in our children and their capabilities. PSLE is important, but it is not everything. For those who made it to Secondary school next week, remember that it is the start of the rest of your lives. It is how you run the next 2-3 laps that will determine the opportunities that will open to you in the future.
Yep, nobody will remember your PSLE score very soon. Nobody talks about it anymore. In fact, nobody remembers the O levels, or A levels results (I certainly cannot remember mine.) But I know I did well enough to get to U and then I moved on to Postgrad.
Today is the beginning of the rest of your life. Don't let yesterday spoil it! -
My daughter got 238 and was posted her second choice school - commonwealth sec. When I found out that COP for Crescent (her 1st choice) was 240, I was very tempted to appeal as she is a school netball player in her primary school and has a good chance of getting through. But my daughter strongly disagreed with us as she felt she’ll be able to do better at commonwealth where there are only 5 express classes and the average COP is not far from hers. Moreover she rightly pointed out that at Commonwealth she’ll be able to do triple science and double maths (a choice given to all their express students) and this opportunity might not come by in Crescent if she is at the bottom of cohort. Infact though she didn’t qualify for HMT automatically, she was allowed to take HMT after sitting for their internal assessment on the registration day. So don’t worry if your child did not get into their first choice school as every cloud as a silver lining.

I am very glad you have such a wise DD. My DD didnt mind either school, clementi town or crescent. All I want was an answer (yes or no) from crescent so I can get on with clementi town. But crescent is not able to give an answer and has told us to wait till Monday. My DD is very strong in languages and she loves chinese. She is doing HMT in Sec 1. Does anyone here feels that HMT should be given creditials for entry to all schools in the future and not limit to SAP schools?

It is true that it is better not to be the weakest kid in the cohort. The teachers tend to pay more attention to you when you are not at the bottom. Having said that, I know of kids who 'start anew' in secondary schools, and top the school despite going into the school at the bottom. For example, a good swimmer I know went to RI at exactly 200. He is now in J2. He managed to survive pretty well. So, some kids who mature later do make it.
So, either way would work. For me, I just want to take care of the logistics so that I can spend time doing other stuff with the kids. Therefore, the sister's school is great. -

I have a younger son and he is mildly autistic so he is with the Canadian International School.Don't worry about uniforms and textbooks yet. You can still wear the Primary school uniforms and don't need textbooks until Jan 15. In the meantime, I think your chances are very good, so keep trying. Look at it this way, at least there's no bad news, so you are definitely in the running.

Mine is just plain autistic, on the mild side but with some difficulties in communication. Asperger kids are on the other edge, talented in specific area. -

Yep, my son needs social intervention as well. How is International School? Are they better than local schools with such kids? I have thought about sending him to international schools before. What is the teacher-student ratio like? He is in GEP, so there are about 20 in the class.2ppaamm:
