      Funz:

Just told DD to plan her revision schedule for SA1.

She came up with complete homework, and alternate days, 1 hour math plus 30mins english, 1 hour science plus 30mins chinese.

I told her ehhhh, I dun have that many sets of practise papers for her. So in the end, we decided that she will revisit all the past worksheets that she has done and do them again.

      This is an excellent strategy!

Hehe, easy way out for me. No need to go hunting for more materials.

I have been doing that since she started P1. It is useful for me to see if she really understands and knows how to do those type of questions and also for her to take note of where her mistakes and weak areas are.

i always envy those hv tutor who plan revision for their kiddo.

My son's english tutor does not do that. She claims 2hours weekly lesson is not enough.I highlighted to her my ds's weeknesses r compo n comprehension, but shouldn't neglect grammar n voca. After the discussion,i leave it to her,she still focusing on compo n compre.

She has been teaching my ds for a month, but absent twice.i wonder what shld i expect fr. tutor?

Actually you are right. All the other components should not be neglected.
My DS will put up a fierce struggle if he is told to do comprehension and creative writing all the time. When that happens, it will be really draining for me. There must be a balance in everything.

2 hours a week is enough for your DS as he is already scoring good grades. She may just want to fill up her slots? Not sure. Just citing a possibility.

Being absent twice in a month? What kind of commitment is that?

same same, my ds dislikes doing open ended qs for compre.

whenever the tutor absent, she always informs me last min...

          Vinegar,

Try to get tutors older than 30. These tutors have more financial commitments, thus they will not cancel lessons regularly.

No recommendations. Honestly, most of the good tutors will have full house by now.

there will be a relief teacher if usual teacher can't make it although that should not happen too often

I really can’t stand tutors who cancel the lessons last minute. Some of them are simply not committed to their lessons. Yesterday, my student’s mum asked me if it’s possible for me to take over from the science tutor as she is planning to fire the tutor.

The tutor has not been teaching process skills (structured Qns) for paper 2. Every lesson she just simply flip to a page and ask the student to do. If the student asks her, she just checks the answer sheet. I was totally speechless when she told me that.
I told her to tolerate this tutor until she can get another one but then again to get another one is not hard. It’s the matter whether the tutor is skillful or not and committed or not. Many claim to be tutors but they keep changing students after few months. Speaks volumes of them. You can choose not to agree.

I have heard too many horror stories from my friend who is a tuition agent. Sigh!

We only engage private tutor for english for my ds. In the past, he went to Lcentral but quit after a yr coz their tutors kept changing.

This is the 2nd private tutor we engage. We engaged her thru Schtutor.com, as recommended by some parents here. My ds said he is tired of joining group tuition(coz he is currently joining group tuitions for chinese).

I really don't what to do...

All the two tutors who i engage, the previous n current ones, always inform me last minute, either on the day morning or an hour b4 the lesson starts.Their reasons: sick.
