Lol. I'm sure many share your sentiments.

I wonder how these dates are set by the Hindu council. Do they observe the moon cycles?

Good thing is there are plenty of long weekends next year.

Chinese New Year: 31 Jan (Fri) - 1 Feb (Sat)
                Good Friday: 18 Apr (Fri)
Hari Raya Puasa: 28 Jul (Mon)
                National Day: 9 Aug (Sat)
Hari Raya Haji: 5 Oct (Sun)

And according to My Paper (http://news.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Singapore/Story/A1Story20130411-415050.html), you can have up to 10 long weekends if you \"strategically apply for six days of annual leave and take a day off-in-lieu.\"

                Can't wait for 2014! :rahrah:

I have the impression that for govt-related organisations, including schools, if PH falls on a Sat, which is a non-working day, then the following Monday will be an off day to compensate for the loss, because they are deprived of an extra day to rest (since they already do not work on that Sat).

If it is working day (even if half day or those alternative Sat arrangement type), then the PH means they get to rest on that day and don’t have to work. This is the most disadvantaged situation.

And then there will be companies who will not automatically declare the Mon as off day even though they do not work on Sats, in which case they will credit one more day’s annual leave to the staff, and let them take that day any time they like. My company is like that.

I don’t think any company can just take away the one day’s rest of PH falling on Sat…

I believe only the schools will have a holiday on the following Monday if the Sat is a P. Holiday, and not all govt-related org. The rest probably gets a day credited to their annual leave.

My company gives flexible off-day that should be taken within 6 months.
