      3 Stages of Life

      http://i50.tinypic.com/2rzfjvd.jpg\">

          Stop the Glorification of Busy

          http://i45.tinypic.com/35anec1.jpg\">

          ‘Busy’ Trap

          By TIM KREIDER
          June 30, 2012
          New York Times

If you live in America in the 21st century you’ve probably had to listen to a lot of people tell you how busy they are. It’s become the default response when you ask anyone how they’re doing: “Busy!” “So busy.” “Crazy busy.” It is, pretty obviously, a boast disguised as a complaint. And the stock response is a kind of congratulation: “That’s a good problem to have,” or “Better than the opposite.”

Notice it isn’t generally people pulling back-to-back shifts in the I.C.U. or commuting by bus to three minimum-wage jobs who tell you how busy they are; what those people are is not busy but tired. Exhausted. Dead on their feet. It’s almost always people whose lamented busyness is purely self-imposed: work and obligations they’ve taken on voluntarily, classes and activities they’ve “encouraged” their kids to participate in. They’re busy because of their own ambition or drive or anxiety, because they’re addicted to busyness and dread what they might have to face in its absence.

Almost everyone I know is busy. They feel anxious and guilty when they aren’t either working or doing something to promote their work. They schedule in time with friends the way students with 4.0 G.P.A.’s make sure to sign up for community service because it looks good on their college applications. ....

          \"Busy Trap\" Article Review : By Holly Baranowski Posted: 03/27/13 5:54pm

          --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This article discussed what the author called “the busy trap.” This is the idea that people in America get so caught up in their schedules, they often forget to just take some time to themselves and relax, hence, “the busy trap.”

The article also talks about how being busy is something that almost is glorified. People brag about how busy they are as a way to show how important they must be. These same people get anxious or guilty when they aren’t busy and find something to do to fill the void.

What’s even worse is that this article describes me perfectly.

Like many college students, I find there aren’t enough hours in the day. I sometimes feel trapped within my daily schedule of class, work and Chinese homework. Even in high school, I dreaded a Saturday sitting by myself in my room. I needed to be doing something all the time.

In college, I dream for some time just to lay on the couch all afternoon, but as soon as that time appears, I run away from it. The last time I decided to take a nap, I crawled into bed only to be haunted by the guilt of what I should be doing instead.

Even after reading this article, I can see the problem, but not a solution. In order to keep up with all the other busy bees in this country, I also must maintain a schedule overflowing at the seams. Right?

It’s important to stay on top of work and school, but where do we draw the line? I’m not really sure what the answer is to this issue, but I suppose I can start by taking baby steps.

Being busy is pretty unavoidable in college, but I think figuring out how to relax now instead of later would be a good place to start.

Changing Stumbling Blocks To Stepping Stones?

              http://i48.tinypic.com/2e31p9y.jpg\">

\"The difference between a stumbling block and a stepping stone is how you use them.\" - Unknown

It is not really what happens to us that matter but how we react to it. Do you agree with me? Someone once said, 10% of life is what happens to you and 90% the way you react to it.

Stumbling blocks are bound to come on our way to our destiny. But our ability to convert such stumbling blocks to stepping-stones will differentiate the successful from the unsuccessful. Whatever happens to us in our quest to attain success is not new, it has once happened to someone before, but what will differentiate you from others is your reaction to it. Someone was once raped and abused; someone once failed and someone was once disappointed, yet someone came out stronger and better.

Stumbling blocks come in form of problems, failures, trials, tribulations, disappointments, and setbacks. If these situations are not adequately managed, they tend to stand on our way to destiny and act as a garrison demarcating us from our success. On the other hand, if these circumstances are properly managed, they act as stepping-stones, which when stepped on will take us closer to our destiny.

well, my way of seeking a Balance Life is to login to Kiasuparents forum in the wee hours of the morning. Works very well for me and I’ll balance it off with 2 jugs of coffee in the morning.

                        dolphin,

I have wanted to wake up at 4am for a long time but just couldn't. How do you do it? It is very nice to experience the break of day, the daylight slowly coming on and that feeling of a new beginning, a new day.

But then hor, it's also very nice to stay up late. Lately, I take some Melatonin to help me sleep earlier but after sleeping earlier, still cannot wake up earlier :stupid:
