am wondering if nan chiau primary school accept early Parent volunteering? my child is born in 2010. Btw, do anyone kind enough to post or provide me the past form for the parent volunteer for reference? many thanks 😄

Sorry i know some of the qns may have been answered but this thread is super long, so i may have missed it. 😄
Q1: is distance one of the criteria that they will be checking if one is suitable for PV?
Q2: how is the PV like? how PV get notified to do work? How much time do they give PV to react (cos need to deconflict)?
Q3: Do one guarantee to have the recommendation letter if one fulfills and clocks all the required hours ? (how many hours exactly) or there is no certainty?

For schools with a long history of balloting in Phase 2B, yes, distance is a major consideration. Normally, those staying beyond 2km will be gently turned down, for their own good as as not to waste their time.

The exact procedures differs from school to school. Usually, PVs will have to wait for the schools to call them for duty, unless it is a regular task such as daily traffic wardening. Try not to turn down the opportunity when the call comes... you may not get it again.

If you complete all the required hours and have documentary proof (signed and doubly \"chopped\"), there is no reason why the school will deny you the right to apply in Phase 2B.

              Hi,

This is my first posting here. This could be the most kiasu 'est question u would have come across.

My DS is 2011 born. Some of u might feel, its quite too early to check out for details. But, seeing the speed in which parents are moving I don’t want to loose the fun.

              Questions:
              1. Can I do pv in schools earlier than called for so that I can clock the required time at my pace.
2 . Can I take my kid with me to the school, as I don’t have anyone to whom I can ask to babysit?
              3. Some schools like SHPS give a list of reading programmes / others in their lists. Does that mean I can choose from either section or choose both?
              4. Normally, does the pv hours 40 - 80 as determined by the schools…need to be finished within a time frame of any number of months (4-6 months) or is it a whole year event & how early are the parents informed of such timetable?

              Thanks in adv
More such kiasuest questions to come…

we are all kiasu so sama sama...:D

                1) Unfortunately, no. The earliest is two years from the registration date. E.g. For 2009 born child, earliest is 2013 now for registration in 2015 for schooling in 2016.
                2) it is not encouraged or not posssible based on feedbacks given by parents in this forum for the same questions.
                3) can you eloborate more? how does it relate to PV?
                4) with many other PVs, you can only PV when you are called upon, the shorter the time frame, you will have a hard time to clock the required hours while still managing your other committments. For others, perharps someone in this forum can help to asnwer.

Trying my best to answer, so far this much only 😄

                  Hi,

While I was a PV at RGPS, "tasks" were snapped up within 5mins when the coordinators sent out emails to PVs. Most of us were worried there wasn’t enough "jobs" to clock those hours. Excluding those public and school holidays, you may not be able to clock the minimum hours if you are "choosy" or too busy with other commitment.

Speak to current PVs to find out more on the school’s activities that required PV involvement. This will help you to plan ahead your schedule.

Hi all… This is my first posting. I’m trying to get mentally prepared for PV.

Can I ask if both the husband and wife can volunteer to clock the hours? Its hard for us to clock alone as both r working.

                      Hi,

Yes both husband and wife can clock the required hours. In fact this was encouraged by the school.

                        Hi,

Anyone got shortlisted for SCGS interview?
So far, the people' around me were all rejected. They don't seems to take in much volunteers.
I wonder where the numbers in their 2B phrase come from since they don't have church or clan associations. Glassroots?
A friend got in via 2B through grassroots.
