She will have to try her luck for choir but schools usually won't leave a lot of spaces for choir as its quite easy to train new sec1s. SOTA and Nanyang Girls' considers artistic talent. However in ny, if you DSA via art, you will have to join the art elective programme. (you can PM me for more info in this prog:))

There might be one or two exceptions.[/quote]Even if your teacher is more senior than their instructors? ;D Anyway, I think insisting that the student learn from their instructors is just too typically a political move. I've observed how in some premier school's COs that if the student doesn't change to the conductor's group of instructors, they would not get leadership positions. Sooo very glad we don't have to deal with that!
Interesting though that you picked up this rather old post that i'd put up some time ago. My child is already in Sec 2. Did get in through DSA chinese orchestra, now after what you wrote about DHS - am glad he didn't join DHSCO. -

I don't know whether it is common practice or not but I heard some girls schools will have some students invited to have tea with principal of some top girls school? I think I read somewhere in KSP.ngl2010:

Few yrs ago, my gal already received such letter/ Card of invitation...
What i was told was that....
The P of the Top Sch (for my gal's case is RGS) wrote in to some primary schs ( esp all girls' pri schs)
To request fr the sch, the names and particulars of their Top few students in the level ( based on sch results)
And the invitation letters/cards \"Tea with the Principal\" would be forwarded to the respective student....

that may explain why the seniors are chosen for SYF....

and who currently is a junior, would be a better person to give details....[/quote]Quite often these who are accepted under DSA would have been prizewinners at National competitions or at least Finalists. So I think they would have some standard lah. I think from my observations, it is just that they may not be sitting at the 1st/2nd rows nor hold leadership positions. Leadership positions are for the seniors - at least Sec 3 or 4. And I doubt they would allow a Sec 1 or 2 to be concertmaster/concertmistress (at 1st chair) or section leaders even if they are national champions if they are juniors. ;D That is totally understandable in the heirachy of school COs.
So what I'm highlighting is that ... the concern of being \"left out\" if offered by DHS under DSA CO - that concern is likely not one to worry about. -
Hi,
For RGS it’s important to be invited to the Tea with P as they call it. Every year they usually have approx 40 or so slots for sports DSA and similar for academic. There will be one T with P for academic and another for Sports.
For the Sports one, it usually means your DD has been pre screened. Given the high standards of RGS sports teams, if you are invited it means your DD will probably be in the top 3 or so in her sports field from a national basis.
