Err..actually, I don't know what has changed. 🤷 It's just that it had been more than 20 years since I graduated, so there's bound to be changes. For a start, school wasn't at this current location then. We have had normal streams since my time but the discipline master was very strict then and I dont remember having any problem with that.

I have to admit that I do look at the banding results of the two schools. It doesn't make much sense (to me) for dd to have to spend more time to travel further to a school when both take in students of same scores but produce different results in O levels. Sorry, no offence to anyone, its just my own personal thoughts, rather narrow thinking..
      Hi Lego & Club 2002 :hi5: ,

Don't worry and thanks for sharing 😄

Dd has to do two Chinese compo this SA1 - 1 compo for HCL and 1 compo for NCL. The format is different for the two compo.

For NCL, you get to choose between 看图作文 or a 命题作文.
For HCL, the choice is between a 完成文章 or 命题作文.
I ask dd to steer clear of 命题作文 though as I think it is tougher to write it.
Having run through DD's SA1 exam topics, I realised that they have to do 2 compos too

True but 看图作文 also equally tough as there are all in six pictures to describe so my snail-paced DD has a tendency to end it with a conclusion of no more than one or two sentense. :faint:

Hi hi, a Maths related question…

, my girl’s SAP school is using Shaping Maths and the ratio topic in there is super easy and covered basic ratios info. The worksheets school gave also super easy. I.e. totally different from the Past year questions we see in past years SA1 exam paperas of the good school s…

Any one have the same experience? Just wondering what to expect at SA1?? ; (

my girl is also using shaping maths, but the school produces its own problem solving worksheets. The problems are similar to those from onsponge or those challenging maths books that we can get from popular

it good that your girl have time to do revision, my girl is buried with school work everyday. it is either math practise paper from her school, extra math problem (she just completed 8 ratio problems yesterday), science practise papers, thinking skill questions etc, hardly have time to touch any assesment books this year.

if you have time to drop by popular, you may want to check out this book - must know maths problem sums and model method (red book), it has very detailed workings( I used that when my girl is stuck with her school work). get your girl to read thru the example so that she have an idea on how to handle different type of ratio question

the other thing you might want to take note is that they usually combine ratio and fractions in a single question, (that is what is notice from my girl school work), so this 2 topics need to know at finger tips. if you take a look at the above mentioned book, you will know.

                  Thanks Carol73! 😉

                  Will get e book.
Nah..my girl also so bz with school work and CCA and some tuition no time to revise. School work and abit of assess memt oor two past exam papers per week os all she can cover... as she's a little lazy yet easily stressed. She does try to push herself SOMeTimes which is good.. like once a week hahaha

Just hope she'll manage fine for SA1 as she can't do well in the past year other school papers esp. Maths. See how it goes!!! Some I also stuck. . Don't understand answers given or don't know how to solve man.. really challenging! 😉

                    Hi

Can I check that for Maths, there are paper 1 and paper 2. It is standard that paper 1 MCQ is 40 marks while Paper 2 will be a mix of those fill in the blanks and Problem sum questions (marks ranging from 2 to 4-5 points per question). And for Paper 2, calculator will be allowed?

The past few weeks have been the worst ever for DD. The work load has been crazy. Dont know how long she can stay in overdrive mode. We are not even thinking of SA, just homework. Survival mode. Luckily she is still cheerful. But don't know when she will buckle.

She is struggling with Math. So am I, actually. From an almost hands off parent, I am reading and working on fractions & ratios. Hoping that I can help explain and move her along faster. Sigh! Back to school for me.

Btw, I am thinking of jumping ship from no tuition to tuition camp. Anyone in similar predicament? Any experienced math tutor or math group to recommend? :imdrowning:
