All about Transferring to Other Primary Schools

Kagillus:
I was told that MOE has a window period which disallow any movements of students (transfers) btw schools during the year end holidays. Hence, parents are usually informed during the last few days of the year, just b4 the new school year starts. I was not given a reason for such a ruling.
Hi, my niece got in st nicholas at p4. V last minute. Last day of the yr, sch notified my brother so he shopped for clothes n books in a day. V happy mood shopping. If I am not wrong, there are vacancies in p4 due to 'Gep openings'. May b last min someone rejected the sch. My niece acad results r good but no cca. My brother thot no hope. Managed to get in based on acad results n perhaps no one wants last minute offer! Just one of the case for ur reference. My brother submitted transfer form in August the yr before. No interview n staying > 2km away. Just some luck from ppl who rejected the sch last min, I suppose.cherrygal:
Just checking around, what are the chances for transferring to schools like CHIJ St Nicholas in P2 or P3? Anyone done that successfully before?
Please advise what will increase the chances? Will they only give priority to those living within 1km or it's purely based on grades and \"talents\"?
Is there any entrance test and interview involved? TIA
For transfer students, the new school will understand if u r unable to get new uniform and books in time for the new school year. -
Hi Kagillus and Dreamgear
Can I know whether your nieces came from neighbourhood schools or also another reputable school? Did your nieces take Higher Chinese? Like to gauge how SNGS makes their selection… -

Dreamgear:
Did your niece's parents volunteer at the school before? Then got balloted out? Schools usually give PVs higher priority on the waiting list for transfers.

Could be a matter of right timing, maybe?

My brother is grassroots leader for first child enter to enter Anderson pri. Don’t think he choose st nic as first choice cos chance v slim, so my second niece went in anderson pri thru Sibling phase. Think it is timing n luck. I am also waiting to transfer my boy to nearby popular sch. Many 'talents ’ on waiting list. So depends on luck to be selected. It is his destiny if not selected.

Thanks Dreamgear and Kagillus for your helpful responses. I am still deciding whether to try at Phase 2B at SNGS or to go to a less popular but still reputable school first then try for transfer later. It's still too early to tell if gal can score well and try for transfer...
Drawback in trying at Phase 2B is the high chance of not getting in, then gal may have to go to a neighbourhood school. Afraid of the possibility of not being able to go elsewhere if she is not outstanding academically later. Decisions decisions... -

Do you only have one choice in P2B? If so, might as well go for it. If your girl is not successful in P2B (touch wood), you may then decide which school to register her in P2C.Thanks Dreamgear and Kagillus for your helpful responses. My second choices are safer at Phase 2B but once I come to Phase 2C, the second choices are just as hot. Plus I also need to be within 1km of my second choice schools to be safe. So I need to choose between SNGS and the second choice when I buy the property.
