Or my granma will buy soft tofu from the market, make a crevice in the tofu, add the portion that she dug out into the mince meat and tong cai mixture, place chunks of mince meat into the crevice of the tofu, and steam.

think this tong cai is a rather teochew thingy. I dun quite like it though.

Saw mummies here mention abt tofu and eggs....

Would like to recommend 1 dish here using plain tofu, eggs and minced pork with Tong cai....
( wonder any1 has tried this dish b4?)

A very easy dish, yet tasty.....often likes by kids....Try it....

        1) mash the plain tofu
        2) beat 2 eggs in a mixing bowl
        3) mix well the beaten egg with the mashed tofu, add some water ( i use estimation) and some salt and pepper to it
        4) steam the mixture under high fire till cooked
        5) season the minced pork with some soya sauce, pepper and corn flour
        6) after washing the Tong cai, chopped them finely
        7) fry the tong cai with the minced pork till cooked
šŸ˜Ž spread the cooked minced pork over the steamed egg tofu....DONE !!!

Yeah! One of my favourite dish.... Teochew people like tong cai, add in the soup, mince in the pork etc....

Oh...u have tried the exact version of this tofu dish b4, with the tong cai?
Most will juz cook this dish without tong cai....

I read that tong cai is also one of the impt ingred in thai recipe...
but i yet to try it with thai recipe.....

Though i am not teochew, i like tong cai for adding into soup...
like fish ball soup with tang hoon or mee suah soup...
And also minced pork steamed with tong cai....simple and yummy!!

As the tofu dish which i recommended tastes quite bland....
With the addition of minced pork fry with tong cai will complement it.....

Dinner was chicken porridge which came back up due to migraine. So in the end all I could stomach was a small cup of milo.

            You feeling better already? http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php

Thank you dearie. All better. Painkillers and a cold dark room helps. Good thing I have black out curtains.

but i yet to try it with thai recipe.....[/quote]å†¬čœ makes the mince pork less porky, my porridge dish... Some time when I missed dinner, will text maid to defrost some pork to steam with tong cai and eat with porridge.... I like ęø…ę·” food.

Younger time, whenever I fell sick, mom will also steam pork with tong cai for me to eat with porridge. Or steam ribbon fish with soy sauce and tong cai....

During uni time, I always make egg soup, beat eggs add lots of pepper and a little salt, fry the omelet to brown then just anyhow cut it into small pieces using the turner, pour in water, bring to boil, then add tong cai and chives and wan shui.... and eat with a big bowl of rice. So happy and contented. šŸ˜†

one-pot chicken rice? stir fry peas, carrots.

Just season pieces of chicken with light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, pepper. Pan fry washed uncooked rice w garlic and v little oil. Add a knob of ginger and cook entire thing in rice cooker (like normal rice cooking w slightly less water than usual cos chicken seasoning and chicken will hv some juices). Mix everything up bef serving.
This sounds simple and delicious! Will try this. Any particular brand you favour/prefer for the lite soy sauce and dark soy sauce?
