Question: If your child hasn't learnt how to tune the violin, and neither can you, how is your child going to learn the play the right notes? Can't possibly wait until the teacher tune it during that half hour lesson? The entire week of practice would have been wasted efforts if the child has been playing it wrongly, right?

Then figure how to tune, lor. Nowadays have tuner apps for downloading too. Don't need to even buy extra tuner.

Tuner Apps! Thanks! Does it work visually? - I am tone deaf πŸ˜†
Anyway, got any to recommend? Thanks in advance!

Found one called G-strings πŸ˜† Is it good? Tried and tested?[/quote]LOL - I personally use G-strings on my Android handphone. It works for me. I have another on my iPod. My son's teacher uses something similar on her iPhone too. Don't know the name.

gStrings - screenshot of me tuning A-string of my little one's violin:

Now I don't have to be in shock when outside and forgot to bring tuner. Usually I do have my handphone with me, so all's good! haha.

When should start learning vibranto technique? Is it difficult to master?

When should start learning vibranto technique? Is it difficult to master?

                      Hi Honesty,

Vibrato is a left-hand technique. The child needs to have a sure command of basic right-hand bowing techniques before it is started on.. Think Suzuki's Twinkle Twinkle! Essentially, vibrato adds \"color\" to the sound and is meant to imitate the human voice.

As to your question, it really isn't difficult at all. Unlike the larger viola (where vibrato is obtained through elbow movement), violin vibrato comes from the wrist. Beginners can place the violin's scroll against the wall, bow, and isolate this wrist movement on each finger. You will need a teacher to show you, of course.

Past that, it simply amounts to practice. Speaking from experience here - I'm not a violin teacher, but I did play violin for much of my life after turning two!

Does anyone has good private violin female teachers to recommend as I am thinking of letting my 6yo girl to go into private lessons. She has been learning violin for about 8 months with Ballet & Music co. Thanks in advance!
