pls help, this is 2mark qns, but my method is kind of long winded, wanted to know if there is shorter method

For every 2packets of sugar bought at $1.4 each, a third packet may be purchased at a special price. Lenny bought 15 packets of sugar and save a total of $3. what was the special price for the third packet.

We group the sugars into 3-packet groups - 2 packets at $1.40 each and 1 packet at special price.

In 15 packets, there will be 15/3=5 groups.
5 groups will mean there will be 5 packets with special price.
A total of $3 was saved for 5 packets with special price, meaning $3/5=$0.60 was saved per packet.

Special Price -->$1.40-$0.60=$0.80

The Nos of chicken eggs is 40 more than 5 times that of duck eggs, the Nos of crocodile eggs is 4 more than 1/10 of chicken eggs. There are 6 fewer crocodile eggs than duck eggs. How many eggs are there?

Let the number of chicken eggs be 10 units.
Duck eggs will be (10 units - 40)/5 = 2 units - 8
Croco eggs will be 1 unit + 4
Since there are 6 fewer croco eggs than duck eggs,
1 unit + 4 + 6 = 2 units - 8
1 unit --> 18
In total there are 10 units + 2 units - 8 + 1 unit + 4 = 13 units - 4 = 13 X 18 - 4 = 230 eggs.

Tina earned $600 more than Bala every month. Both of them spent $2400 each month and saved the rest. When Tina saved $9000, Bala saved only $4800. How much did Tina spend in total?

Since both spent the same amount, the saving difference will be due to their difference in earnings. Each month, Tina earned $600 more. So it will take
$9000-$4800=$4200
$4200 / $600 = 7 months to get the stated amount saved.
Ans: 7 X $2400 = $16800

Can anyone help me with the following questions,


1) A container when 5/6 filled with water weighs 454kg. When it is 1/4 filled with water, it weighs 321kg. What is the mass of the container?

2) Mrs Lim went to the market with a sum of money. She spent 1/2 of her money and $12 on prawns. She then spent 1/3 of the remaining money and $13 on chickens.
Finally, she spent 1/4 of the money she had left and $14 on eggs.
In the end, she had $7.
A) how much did Mrs Lim have left after spending her money on chickens?

B) how much did she have at first?

Tim and Dan received 94 marbles altogether.

A box of beads was sold out in 4 days. 1/5 of the beads were sold on the second day. 3/10 of the cards were sold on the third day. The number of beads sold on the fourth day was 14 more than that sold on the second day. The ratio of the beads sold on the first day to the total number of beads sold on the next 3 days was 1:7.

Using equal fraction/equalizing numerator method:

1/3 of Oliver's money = 2/3 of Kayla's money
2/6 of Oliver's money = 2/3 of Kayla's money

Oliver's money --> 6 units
Kayla's money --> 3 units

a) If Oliver has $60 more than Kayla,
6 units - 3 units = 3 units --> $60
1 unit --> $20

Oliver's money --> 6 x $20 = $120

b) If Oliver has $120 more than Kayla,
6 units - 3 units = 3 units --> $120
1 unit --> $40

Oliver's money --> 6 x $40 = $ 240

Total number of markers --> 13 units

13 units --> 143
1 unit = 11

Number of black markers --> 66
Number of black markers left --> 1/3 x 66 = 22
